100,000 Coronavirus Dead by The End of May?

This is a prediction thread. At the current average Coronavirus death rates of around 2,000 dead a day, I suspect we will have 100,000 Coronavirus dead by the end of May.

We recently passed 62,000+ dead. With around 2,000 dying daily, we will hit 100,000 in around 19 days. Rather than saying 19 days, let's just say the end of May.

Then again, as states reopen we may see a surge in death rates. If we see massive reopening I greatly suspect we will fly by 100,000 by the end of May.

While writing this post I had a change of mind. I hope all we have are 100,000 by the end of May.

If you have a prediction on how many you think will be dead by the end of May, please post it.

Please, and for the love of GOD, let's remember we are talking about peoples lives, friends, and family. This is not a lighthearted topic. We are in the midst of a Global Pandemic that we may be looking at a turning point on.

Will Trump Declare Martial Law?

Long term survival Backpack

Hello,

Guys i'm pretty new to the forum, not from the US but i would have a few questions about my survival backpack.
Mainly if the items i have a good for long term survival, if something is too much, if something is missing. The current gear i use, is for 3-5 days, so i would like to know what else i need for long term.
I would like to start with the fact that i am tall guy 1.92 meters (6.3 feet), have about 95 KG's (203 lbs), athletic constitution (some fat lately due to the quarantine in Europe). I also must note that i don't take everything with me all the time, i take stuff depends on what i'm doing.

I have the following items (including clothing):
- Backpack 45L, expandable to 90L via zippers on sides. It has a gun store in the back and has a aluminum frame, mole slots, water resistant and 25 year warranty from a respectable European company. Green camo.
- Water resistant clothing with a 0-25 Celsius comfort degree rating. I have underclothes (wind resistant) for upper and lower part of body. They were good for me until -15 degrees, but a confort temperature would be -10 degrees C. Salomon boots, that do very well in the summer and with proper socks in the winter. I have the Original Mechanix gloves that for me are good from woodworking, small works and even shooting my air rifle. Rain coat.
- I have 2 knives a Kabar Big Brother ( serrated ) for machete like tasks and larger knife task, and a morakniv survival/crafting smaller knife. I'm still looking for a nylon seethe for the Kabar. I own a Cold steel machete, but it's to thin for my type of forest, a Gerber Gator one that worked well for me on chopping and Gerber Parang very good for chopping.
- I have 2 pocket sharpening tool good for knifes and a axe. Both very lightweight.
- A foldable solar panel rugged, 30W (max tested 27.8W) in spring time (march) 15v DC and 2x USB. 960 grams.
- Lights : 2 x Solar accordion type lanterns, 1 Aluminum Grade Flashlight with 18650 battery (with a USB charger and 2 extra batteries). A Headlamp with a small solar charger, enough to charge that in one day. 2x Candles for light/ warmth if needed. A electric lighter, a pressure natural gas lighter + small extra natural gas container (for those windy days), and a pretty big ferro rod, good quality.
- 2 x 1.5m Fishing pen poles with various hooks, strings, floaters, very lightweight and compact.
- Tools like:
a)Big boy silky.
b)Fiskars small hatchet X7, that i can split logs with surprisingly while i keep it sharp.
c)A 19 in 1 multitool for electric stuff maintenance etc.
d)Paracord, 550lbs, about 60 meters.
e)Other strings that i can tie up logs, even made a nice door once. Including a metal string to keep wood fixed and tight.
f)A couple of bracelets with hooks, strings, compass, gimmicks.
g)2 People cooking set small and compact alongside with a 150 grams portable grill (has to be assembled)
h)A couple of Mylar blankets
i) A Sawyer Water Purifier with extra storage for water.
J)A small 64 grams, water bag for 20L of water. It's solar so you can take a shower or use it to carry water if needed. Perfect with paracord even if throwing it in a well to get water.
k)A small shovel, (i'm looking for a better one at the moment, this bends a little).
l) I own a grappling hook but i never had to use this so it just sits here at the moment.
m) First aid kit, that i take with me on every trip.
n) Patches and ducktape for clothes/tent
- As for shelter, i will probably be called a noob here but i always used a tent (except when i build it myself. I have a 2.1 KG tent for 2 and half persons that is very convenient and takes me like 7-8 minutes to set up and less to take it down (also very good water resistant 10000). I also have a standard foam pad and a 700 grams sleeping bag (-5 to 25 degrees Celsius comfortable, but I've used it at -9 degrees with no problem). I'm willing to try either a poncho, either a tarp, but i just don't know what is the best on the market, any tips would be appreciated.
- As for emergency food, i always bring MRE with me. I got my hands on some, they are very good and if I do not burn out too many calories, they can last me trough the day.

In total without the machetes, they all weight about 21 KG's. Not the weight I like to carry with me, but for long term i could get to 30 KG's without any issues.

Unfortunately firearms are restricted in my country so no, i don't own any. I only own a gas piston air rifle but we aren't allowed in the woods with it or on any public place. So that is that. But in case of long term survival who cares, i have a 3KG air rifle with a 4-16 leapers UTG IR scope and a pellet making mold for it. I consider it good because every car battery is about 2500 pellets . The 28 FPE it puts out is enough for small to medium animals hunting.

The machetes i mention i don't use them too much, i bought them at the beginning and i thought they would have a better use but the truth is nothing can beat the silky and a hatchet. If you put your mind to it, the silky can cut very big logs by turning them, while burning low amounts of energy.

I have tons of other stuff, not worth mentioning, and some I don't recall right now.

I would appreciate some tips, some + or - to the backpack that you guys have dealt with in your longer experience than mine. Due to the recent events (The so called Pandemic) I'm giving this a more thorough thought. I'm fresh 30 years old, while giving me the hints, please consider i have a wife and a 9 months old daughter that i will obviously take with me if the situation needs it.

I'm in the market for some good walkies, one for me one for my wife. The thing is that I would like it to catch other frequencies also, sort of a scan. I never had one so I don't even know what to look for.

Thank you in advance!

“I Loved Martyrdom...”

The story of Saint Luke the Doctor and Archbishop of Crimea...

http://orthochristian.com/79907.html

“ If anybody finds themselves on Mount Athos or anywhere with other ancient churches, they will notice that many of the churches are painted red. And if one were to ask the monks, they would reply that this red color symbolizes Christ's blood, as well as that of His Saints'. It reminds people, that even though various religions or ideologies were spread through propaganda, violence and oppression, Christ's Church won over people's hearts through meekness, Christ's and His Saints' blood, torture and martyrdom. There is no Orthodox Church that did not pass through martyrdom. Neither has there been a saint who did not go through his personal furnace of sorrows, temptations and martyrdom.

During the twentieth century, the Russian church went through her own cruel martyrdom. For seven decades a countless multitude of martyrs and confessors went through their own personal "crucifixion," offering their own blood.

One such moving martyrdom is that of Archbishop Luke, professor of Topographic Anatomy and Surgery. This man with rare talents and gifts, who served people as a pastor and as a doctor, with admirable love and self-denial, continued the traditions of the great Holy Unmercenary Doctors of our Church. This incredible figure and his divine greatness is the cause of astonishment, admiration, and divine consolation.

In today's presentation, we will try to briefly draw near this individual, and make a diagram of his journey...”

New Loads in Federal?s ?Train + Protect? Line of Ammo

Federal’s “Train + Protect” ammunition line is being expanded to include more cartridges. Previously available in 9mm Luger, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP, this ammo is loaded with hollowpoint bullets but is priced lower than “premium” defensive ammo… so you can afford to practice with the same stuff you carry for self defense. Protect Your Rights!

We just recently found out here in Canada that our federal government - in the middle of all the uncertainty and chaos right now - is taking action to ban several firearms.

They are doing this by an "Order in Council" which would be similar to an Executive Order in the US.

The rumor is that they are banning the AR15, SKS, 10/22, M1A/M14 variants, Robinson Arms XCR (which is super popular in Canada), Mini 14, Mini 30, Storm CX4, and several other rifles.

This is what happens when you don't guard your rights. This is what happens when you don't speak up. This is what happens when you don't support organizations that speak up for your firearm ownership rights. This is what happens when hunters say "They're not coming for my guns, so it doesn't bother me." This is what happens when trap and skeet shooters say "They're not coming for my guns, so it doesn't bother me."

This is what happens when you give an inch. This is what happens when you compromise.

Stopping Mass Shooters

In the right hands guns are very good and very effective for stopping bad people and I believe it is our duty as people in the gun community to show the rest of the world just how good and effective they are for that. Its only a matter of time before we have another mass shooting in the USA, there was one just recently in Canada, and when the next mass shooting does happen in the USA I hope there is a good person there with a gun to stop it. The difference between the USA and Canada is that in Canada good people can't carry guns(not unless they've got a specific job such as being a police officer that involves carrying guns) and in the USA sometimes good people can carry guns, depending on the time and place.

The most recent example of a good person with a gun stopping a bad person was when Stephen Willeford stopped the Southerland Springs shooter in Southerland Springs, TX. Willeford used an AR-15 semi automatic rifle against the shooter who was also armed with a semi automatic rifle which was AR variant.

Now if I was going up against a shooter with an AR rifle I would want a similar weapon myself. I've started threads before where I've compared handguns to long guns and much of what I base my comparisons on is how realistic it would be to have whatever kinds of weapons are being compared accessible when trouble rears its ugly head. A handgun you can carry around with you, concealed if necessary, whereas with a long gun while it can be carried around its larger, heavier, and much more likely to attract unwanted attention. As I said if I was going up against a shooter with an AR rifle I would want an AR rifle too but in all reality you're probably not going to be carrying an AR rifle but you can carry a handgun.

I don't know the specific details, I don't know how Willeford was able to get to his rifle during the shootout but the fact is you might not have a choice but to take on a rifle shooter with only a handgun. Its not a matter of what you would prefer its a matter of what you have available. Are you going to go into a mall, church, or other public building or area with an AR rifle? That being said a handgun might be the only option available for confronting a mass shooter who could be armed with a shotgun or rifle and thus you might have to take on a shooter armed with a rifle or shotgun with only a handgun. This is where I believe skill comes into play big time.

I think that what's more important than what kind of weapon you've got is how skilled you are with it. With enough skill I believe a good person with a handgun can take out a shooter whose got a rifle or shotgun. I do know Willeford was highly skilled having been an NRA firearms instructor. Again I don't know the details about how Willeford was able to use a rifle instead of just a handgun but Im glad he had the best option available. But as I said I believe its skill that's most important of all. So whatever kind of gun you've got, rifle, shotgun, handgun, I encourage you all to get good training and develop good skill.

Genuine question, not giving you a hard time.

It's my understanding that Austin was about the deepest blue city in Texas, populated by militant progressive ex-Californians and 20-something millennials whose politics were generally slightly to the left of Antifa.

I guess I'm wondering whether that gunshop wasn't on it's last legs anyway, whether COVID-19 hit or didn't.

I can't see many of the good citizens of Austin, TX paying much attention to a gun store, except perhaps to protest against it and write nasty letters to the editor explaining why it shouldn't be in Austin to begin with.

Is my understanding incorrect?

Biden went a little too far with the groping

I do not to be demeaning, but that NPR report is news I heard some time ago.

I remember because one morning I got a laugh out of it,...and at myself.

The report I read was headlined he assaulted her digitally, and I thought what the hell is digital sexual assault.

Is that something new?

When I read the story, I knew what digit they meant in the headline.

I laughed at me!

Looking for an Animated Short Film

I'm looking for an animated short that may have been on Sesame Street. The film I'm looking for takes place in a world in which toys are alive. A child has a toy steam locomotive that she loves very much. The child receives a second toy, a modern streamline train. The modern train is jealous of the steam locomotive and competes with it for the child's affection.

I don't recall any words, only sound effects made by musical instruments. A percussion instrument is played when the steam locomotive is moving to imitate the clickily clack that a steam train would make and a string instrument, most likely a violin, to mimic the constant sound that a modern train would make.

Does any of this ring a bell? Any information you may have helps to find it.

Wind-powered Freezer

Has anyone here used one of those mini wind turbines Home Depot sells to power a freezer?

We get a fair amount of wind, off and on, and I've thought about getting one, but I couldn't come up with a plausible enough use for it (we have a generator). It dawned on me the other day that my chest freezer doesn't run all the time, just occasionally. I'm thinking that a small battery bank, charge controller and this mini turbine would be enough for the freezer and maybe some basement lights?

How is your coronavirus stress level?

between a rock and a hard place

Default between a rock and a hard place

I can understand alot of people want to stop the what they feel is against the constitution by making them shelter in place, most have lost their jobs and cant pay their bills, and the stress that comes with that and the stress with dealing with kids out of school will lead to some domestic problems. These AMERICANS want to work they want their lives back. But with that freedom back, what if it gos bad and the virus ramps up because people went back to work & play getting togeather in groups, church, bingo ,what ever. IMO there is no easy answer for this, all the people in government are getting paid[ our elected officials],and the MEDIA, so they cant look at it thru the eyes of the americans suffering.
Im in a good place im retired and have 40 acres, and no family except my old black lab, Im prepped and have a small amount of $ and im on soc sec, but that may end when the $ run out. I just am on the fence about making people stay home or letting them live their lives like they did before the virus.
Im just curious as to how you folks feel about this situation?????

Truly Uncertain Times Ahead

Even though death and infection rates are slowly decreasing, I feel the worst is yet to come. Maybe not with Coronavirus, but with the economy, foreign trade, relations with other nations, civil liberties... etc.

It is as if everything that could go wrong was written on pieces of paper, put on a wall, and someone with a blindfold is throwing darts.

The price of oil dipping at or below zero is going to have a lasting devastating effect on the global economy. Even if people went back to work tomorrow, it will take months to go through all the oil that was drilled during lockdown.

People screaming civil rights this, civil rights that, put people back to work,,, do they want a replay of the Black Death? Put people back to work, open the malls, open the schools, and watch the death rates skyrocket.

Unemployment funds are starting to run out. The system simply was not designed for millions of people to be put out of work in a matter of weeks.

Food banks are running out of food, but at the same time farmers are tilling crops into the ground.

To quote a scene from "The Big Short", nothing makes sense.
