getting hold of machine guns after SHTF

The answer to your question is to save, and then purchase one of those that are available. And then wait for the year or so for paperwork, maybe longer if you need to transfer it twice or more. In the meantime, lots of ramen noodles...

The question becomes- is it worth sinking an extra $20 to 25K into a single firearm ? Or should you use that money elsewhere- for either ammo, modest weapons upgrades, or other essential preps ?

For modern armies, with basically endless funding for more ammo, it's perfectly OK to expend 10,000 or more rounds for a single kill, or to take an enemy combatant off the field. This is where most people have this other concern-- living within a budget...

Personally, before I bought a full auto weapon, I'd be upgrading to a slide fire stock, or a binary trigger, or adding a suppressor...And I'd probably have another 6 months to a year of food, with a piece of rural property somewhere else.. All before I sunk money into an automatic.. Automatics would really need to be in the 1k to 5K range before I'd even look at them.. It's the same reason I don't have a .50 cal barret semi-auto.. What good is a $10K gun when you can't afford to feed it..
