Mr. Buddy Portable Heater Question

So here I am running a small candle business out of my garage in the beginning of winter, and I am just now realizing how many 1lb propane cylinders I am burning through and the cost associated with them quickly adding up. Obviously, using a 20lb tank is much cheaper. My question is, does the 20lb tank *HAVE* to be turned off when not in use? My garage is attached to my house and I am trying to avoid having to go outside in the cold to turn the tank on and off after every use (which would be multiple times per day on average).

The tank will not be inside the garage; it will be outside a few feet away from the side of the garage. I will be using it on a daily basis if that makes any difference.
