hackers stealing all your money

Some friends of ours in their early 60s are pretty tech savvy. They made their money a long time ago and havent really had to work in a long time.

They kept their investments with multiple brokerages to diversify risk.

Last year hackers went into all their accounts and stole *all* of their money and transferred to accounts in brazil.

I recommend that you use two factor authentication on all accounts. I keep minimal money in my checking account that I use as a debit card that has simple authentication.

The hackers are hacking cell phones which receive two factor authentication messages, so the only one I trust is RSA secure ID token devices.

Hackers hack emails so they can trigger account password resets.

Instead of immediately damaging a compromised machine, they are monitoring it for months until they have enough information to take everything.

A friend went to russia on a work trip, her husband gave her a clean laptop with barely anything on it. He said do not access any of your accounts while in russia.

If you connect to public wifi in an airport your computer and phone can be hacked in about 5 seconds and password loggers installed.

This is very scary and is a huge wakeup call.
