Forgive me, I hate to beat a dead horse on the whole budget rifle thing, but I've gotta get specific here. Ive been frequenting my local gun store lately in search of a budget .308 for target/hunting/shtf for my first rifle (not an inexperienced shooter, just young and havent had the money to own my own rifle until now) and today i decided to have a look at their .270 selection as well. After handling just about everything they have, I was stuck between the Ruger American in .308 and the Savage 110 in .270. The Ruger came with a Nikon Prostaff for $429.99 and the Savage had a gorgeous Vortex Cross fire, $299.99 total. Id prefer the .308 for the availability/price, but I loved that Vortex, and of course the price of the Savage. Finally my question: is getting the .308 really worth the extra $$$ or would i be better off saving the $$$ and getting the Savage? Thanks guys
