Ok, here's the deal. A lady that I know lost her husband several months ago. He was an avid shooter and reloader. She has sold off all the guns she does not want. However, she has piles of ammo and reloading stuff along with other gun "stuff". She has no clue whatsoever what the stuff is worth- and there is a bunch of it. Several pickup truck loads....
There is quite a bit of stuff that I would want personally.....She indicated that she does not want to deal with it- take it to gunshows etc.....So, I offered to sell the stuff at several upcoming gunshows for a commission to be credited against whatever I might want for myself.
She thinks this would be the best outcome. The only thing we have to agree on is my "percentage". My thought-which might be biased-hence this thread--- is 15-20%.
I base this off several things- local gunshops all charge 20% on consignment items. Local auction houses will charge a fee and 10%. Some of the items will probably bring the most money on Ebay-where I will personally incur fees....There will be quite a bit of work, everything has to be sorted, priced, moved from her house to mine and then to each show and back. I may have to rent a table to handle everything and there will be costs for that.....Anyone that would come in and buy the whole lot isn't going to pay much as they will want to profit on it, if they buy it for themselves there will be things they don't want and will have to dispose of-things they won't value very much....Most private buyers aren't going to pay but 50-70% of what things are worth.
Thoughts on what would be fair?
