I bought a large ALICE pack for 40EURs, and I toted it around Prague for a week. I packed it to 18kgs (I weigh 70kg), so it definitely felt like too much.
Those two main straps that go between the MRE pouches and hold the lid down - what are they for? I tried hanging a secondary rucksack off those straps, but it seemed to tear the lid away from the part of the ALICE that holds the frame (IMAG3216). So I take it they're not meant to bear a load?
Then I got back and looked at the straps. Due to the way the ALICE straps are setup, the thing in the middle can't help but get scrunched up. It doesn't look like it'll last long at this rate, it's only been one trip, and the pack is supposed to be rated to carry much heavier loads! Is this normal? Are these straps supposed to be regularly replaced? I thought military stuff would last forever...
I smoothed one strap out (IMAG3215) but I don't think it's gonna stay that way for long.
