To meet the criteria to be officially called a 'plague' a life-form has to accomplish three events.
1.It has to make the jump to another animal species from the host or reservoir animal.(Flu;ducks and chickens to pigs:Ebola;Fruit Bats to mammals)
2.Newly infected animal to man.(Pigs butchered for market.Jungle mammals( bushmeat) cleaned and eaten for the protein.
3.Go pneumonic.(Spread by cough,sneeze.other droplets.)
Flu has long hit Stage 3.Bubonic Plague goes to 3 on a regular basis.Surfacing evidence seems to indicate our little bastard friend Ebola is there or almost there.Smallpox is at 3.Rabies isnt yet.Neither is AIDS.
All the ones Ive listed above are a virus except BPlague.Thats a bacterium that can be cured with a round if Tetracycline(currently almost unavailable for some strange reason. Last I read,a100 500mg capsules were 900 bucks and Wally World and Walgreens quit carrying it...But I digress.
