Safest place during a Tornado?

During an Earthquake generally you wanna get under something sturdy. A door frame, or beam.

For a hurricane it's away from the coast, and high ground.

What about a Tornado. I know ideally it's WAY OUT OF THE WAY, and if you can to get low, like the basement. What if you live in an average 1-2 story house(above ground), and are surprised by a Tornado? What can you do in the last minute to increase your chances of survival as much as possible?

I am genuinely curious.
