cryptosporidium

Filtering, Boiling, UV and Chlorine Dioxide are your main options for effectively dealing with it. Iodine and Bleach perform poorly because of it's protective sheath.

If you prefer bleach for long term bulk water storage you can still go that route -- just filter or boil the water as you add it. Crypto is bigger than most bacteria so it's pretty easily removed. Then you can add your bleach and store as normal.

For quick / on the go treatment, chlorine dioxide based purification tablets work, but while it can take care of the viruses and bacteria pretty quick (like 15-30 min), the crypto can take up to 4 hours depending on water temp and clarity. As a result, it's still a good idea to pre-filter with something like a sawyer mini first so you don't have to wait so long to take a drink.
