Some of the uses I have thought one would come in handy are: grinding massa finer than I can get it in my grinder, bruising spices, making sauces like pesto sauce, breaking small amounts of grains, making blackpowder and, grinding chemicals, powdering salt and sugar and so on.
For those who have and use a mortar and pestle what do you recommend I should be looking for and what should I avoid?
