Do you have a fishing scale (spring type)?

If you do, you can improvise a torque wrench.

Most scope manufacturers specify between 15 and 25 inch.pounds torque for the rings.

Measure your torx wrench (in inches) and divide the length into the torque spec you use (say 20 inch.pounds).

For a 3 inch long torx lever, you need to apply about 7 pounds force on the end of it. You can make it easier by taping the scale hook to the end of the torx lever - then pull with the scale at 90 degrees to the wrench until 7 pounds is shown on the scale.
