On a pyrolysis system? That's the process and machine. If you are just doing this in your backyard and want no benefit besides the burning of wood, you can just put holes in the bottom of a metal barrel and load up the inside then seal it, then place the seal down towards the fire turn the holes on one side towards the fire and it creates pyrolysis then when the thing isn't smoking anymore you are burning the carbon. So youll want to take it off the fire then spray it with water. You will have biochar.

We do it a little different and get the energy from it. But its a basic way of doing it that people have been doing it for a long time.
