I bought a carbon steel "Companion, and a Clipper 840 plain edge in stainless. Both were fairly sharp from the factory, although, expectedly, the carbon steel was a bit sharper. I paid $15 for the stainless, and $11.49 for the carbon steel Can't wait to put them through their paces!
