We came in. They told me to vote first. I did, since I was straight ticket it was easy. Finished in a minute or two, came back.
My husband handed over his ID card. They didn't have any trouble with us having Texas ID's as opposed to drivers license. They gave him his number and I grabbed the wheelchair.
A woman stepped forward, an election official, and said she had to accompany us to vote, since he was blind, they had to make sure I voted his way on his ticket.
OK. Never done that in 26 years of us voting together.
We went over to the terminal. I knew how he wanted to vote, we talk at home. But I knew SHE wanted to hear it, so I asked him "How do you want to vote?"
He told me. I selected it and let her look to verify I was voting "his" way. She "walked me through the process" - and I verified I was voting straight ticket. I have a relative in a race and I wanted to vote for that person. I also like Ed Emmett and want him to continue as the unincorporated "mayor". Everything was fine. We cast the ballot. All done.
She went and got the stickers and then finally left us alone. I applaud her for protecting his vote, but what ever happened to privacy?
I thought it was a secret ballot
