I live in the Deep South and we usually have wet winters with moderate rain in the mid spring and late fall. Summer's can get dry and a whole lot humid. This year was different ... We are bone dry. Rained 8 inches in a week and a half and we are still way below. Last Christmas it was almost flooding because we had too much water. I really got to thinking today that had this happened after all heck broke loose then I would have been hurting. I guess I did not consider a drought that was super dry and all the ponds went dry and all the creeks were bone dry as well. The rivers are still okay but many lakes around are 15-20 feet low on average. We didn't get rain and then it got super hot and very dry. Animal waterbeds would be empty twice as quick from the increased animal needs and the increased evaporation. I learned that I will be buying more long term water storage containers. I always stocked a small but decent amount back then assumed I would find enough water but I would have to filter and sanitize ... I learned that was a bad assumption. Hopefully soon I can go ahead with an underground 500 gallon tank that my main runs directly into fills and then runs into the house. That would get me by much longer for sure. Not extended but prolong enough to tap a deeper well or wait for rain.
