Thoughts on Nightvision I hear buy gen3 or nothing

So often you hear people say buy gen3 or nothing.
Well as an owner of digital nightvision gen1 gen1+ gen2 gen3± autogated and 640res thermal I'm here to explain a few things for the budget minded.

First off cheap gen1 is crap and practically useless the image is so distorted that you can't ID anything. Even using IR Light it's like looking through a thick pair of reading glasses that are the wrong prescription. Most cheap gen one monoculars will only get you an image out to 20 or 30 yards and the field of view is tiny.

Now if you spend. A little more and get an Armasight spark core gen1 then you get a great quality image but very low light gain. Similarly digital gives you a very good image but low light gain in less it's a $2,000 digital.

You can also get decent binoculars in gen1 but they will be $550 to $700

Step up to gen 2 and now you can see in the dark without ir on most nights. You will be forced to turn up the gain a lot and lose image quality but at least now your passive.

Step up to gen3 and now you can go out any night and be completely passive or use IR light for crystal clear images.

So back to the IR light idea. First of all it's awesome with digital and gives you an impressive image however if your looking into the woods and brush you lose your image cause the light bounces off the brush and you can't see anything beyond it. This is where paying more really pays off.

I would say you get what you pay for in nightvision so yes that $3,500 pvs14 gen3 autogated is 6 times better then my gen I however that doesn't mean that the cheap nightvision is worthless. I just want you all to understand what each level buys you and that there is a huge difference between them all.

Now thermal is a whole nother beast I'll be filming some fun stuff with mine and will show you guys some interesting things that are possible.
