Cross country after an EMP.

I've been lurking for quite some time. A few friends and I have been "war gaming" a few scenarios for me. A little background:

I recently moved to Phoenix, Arizona for my job. I get paid very well and moving at this time is out of the question. My family and most of my old preps are back in Kentucky. It would be far more beneficial for me to ride out any long term disaster in my home state. To say nothing of the Valley being nigh unsurvivable in the summer.

My means back home would be a dual sport motorcycle. I'm of the same mind as Dr. Arthur Bradley that vehicles are not quite as susceptible to EMP as we may think. My bike is carbureted and has no ECM/CPU system. I have an approximate 250 miles on my stock tank and could, at most, carry another five gallons of spare fuel. That would be an approximate range to empty of 500 miles.

At minimum I would have 1300 miles to travel. Short of joining the Toecutter and wearing too much leather, what sort of options for fuel would I have in the first two or three days following am EMP? What could I trade in those few hours?

How long would you all be willing to ride the interstate the first few hours post-EMP?

Let's block ads! (Why?)
