Untrained dogs, how useful

We have two dogs, family pets. One is a springer spaniel who is afraid of fireworks and storms and the other is a over weight blue heeler. The heeler is a great guard dog when she can get her fat behind on the back of the couch to look out the window. She acts like she's going to rip someone limb from limb if they are at the gate and not in the yard. The heeler is actually great at fetching birds, live. If I get a escaped quail and she sees it, she brings it back to me. The spaniel just ignores everything but will trail the yard each morning. She's great at trailing. If you watch her, she will alert you to things she hears but she's not a barker.

So in a shtf, bug out sit. Just how useful or unuseful do you think the dogs would be?
