Buddy heater stuck on high.

Decided to hook up the buddy heater & make sure it was still good for this coming winter.
Well it fired right up & now it's stuck on high at this moment. I've read that a few people on here have had issues with them.

Anyone know a trick to unstick the dial ?
If I just close the tank valve & let it burn out what fuel is in the line will I be able to relight it by turning the valve back on & holding a bic grill lighter to the pilot?

Just hooked up a new bottle & really don't wanna waste $20 worth of propane.
