What about sieges?

I was allowing my mind to wander a bit today, and thought about how it seems that the usual home/property defense scenario in WROL/TEOTWAWKI is a raid of some kind. Which is most likely as per history.

However, has anyone done or thought about what to do if said raiders don't leave? How would you handle a siege?

Could you get to your animals if you have any?
How about your water situation?
What would you do to keep sanitation high?

Just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on the subject.
