Home defense smoke grenades

wasn't sure where to put this crazy thread so GEN it is! - a co worker, who plays airsoft and paintball, said that I should get some smoke grenades in case of a home invasion - that if a breakin were to occur the homeowner should fall back to the safe room and set off a smoke outside that location to fill the home and drive out the badguy





i laughed my ass off and am now posting here, wondering if he's got a good idea or is a nutball like I suspect?
