Hogue Overmolded Stock on the Ranch Rifle (Mini-14)

I picked up a http://ift.tt/1FnwAE3

Ruger 5846 Tactical Mini-14 the other day. It's the third Mini for me but the first of the 'modern' series.

The guy I got it from swapped out the ATI Strikeforce Stock for the Hogue Overmolded (Ghillie Green) and a UltiMAK Ruger Mini-14 Scout Mount. He threw in the ATI stock and an additional Archangel stock.

I didn't care for the Archangel, tried the ATI on (I have one for my 10-22 and love it) and didn't care for that either. I ended up trading the Archangel for a traditional hardwood stock with a guy in Texas.

To my surprise, I found that it shot much better with the Hogue than the hardwood. The wood looks really nice but my group opened up considerably. I never tried the Archangel as one of my sons has one and it just doesn't feel right to me. It's nice to have options though :D: The UltiMak works with both the wood and Hogue, and I really like how it looks.

PS There was a compensator, made for an AR pistol, on it but he also had the original 'birdcage." I put that back on and moved the compensator to my AR pistol and it works quite nicely there. :D:

Anyone else have the Hogue? I have always liked Hogue products in the past and it looks like this one is no exception. I didn't think I would like the Gillie Green but it has grown on me. :thumb:

Questions about Pool Shock

I've looked through the boards and checked the site about calcium hypochlorite and if I did all the calculations correctly...I would use roughly 1/6 oz (56% cal. hypochlorite) for 1 gallon of bleach and use 1/2 of that gallon in a 55 gallon barrel to have purified water. That seems like a lot of bleach to me.
The best calcium hypochlorite I could find is in the HTH Super Select Shock....the SDS sheet shows the following ingredients: CALCIUM HYPOCHLORITE, MAGNESIUM SULFATE HEPTAHYDRATE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, CALCIUM CHLORATE, CALCIUM CHLORIDE, CALCIUM HYDROXIDE, CALCIUM CARBONATE, and Water. I looked up each ingredient individually and they all seem to be safe in small quantities. Does seem right?
Any help you all can give would be greatly appreciated.

I Killed Again.

One of my wife's little dogs was on the front proch raising cain this afternoon.
I pick up one of my 1911s since I was in the house. I generally carrry a Chief's Special on me when I'm in the yard.

I went out and rattled the entry gate onto the front porch and guess what struck back at the gate. Mr. Three Foot Coontail Rattlesnake. He was on the front walkway and was trying to get into the front porch. I steped back into the house and picked up one of my entryway guns, an Airweight Chief's Special with Snakeshot loaded in it. I keep at least one of my entryway revolvers loaded with Snakeshot in the spring, summer and fall where I live.

I applied one round of Speer .38 spl snakeshot to Mr. Coontail's head, which sreaded it and that was the end of Mr. Coontail. He/she had eight rattles and a button and was a little over three and a half feet long. Mr. Coontail wasn't afraid of anything, he came right at me.

Such is life in the country in Texas.

The gun was a Model 37 Smith and Wesson 1 7/8 inch .38 spl with a nickle finish (it blinded the snake). The Speer .38 snakeshot opens up pretty quick when comming out of a short barrel and at about for or five feet will kill said viper, es muy pronto. I'm gettin' too old and too slow for a Ho' and they want $50.00 around here to kill a rattlesnake.

Cast Iron Cookware

The cast iron cookware I got as a prep has arrived. What is the best way to clean it? I have read multiple things.

One piece is a frying pan and the other is a 2 qt. casserole dish/Dutch oven.

Also, is there anything I shouldn't do? I am pretty sure one shouldn't use the copper/steel scrubbers on it, and putting it in the dishwasher is also a no-no.

I did get some cleaning soap specific to cast-iron cookware.

"Faircane" Buy Or Build?

The famed W E Fairbairn, Shanghai police Riot Squad founder, CQC trainer to the SOE & OSS in WW II, co-designer of the classic SAS Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Knife, also designed a swagger stick. Sometimes it was known as the "Faircane". It was 22.5" in length, constructed of stacked leather washers on a steel rod core. The end was 2.5" of semi sharp steel point. The pommel was usually a barrel shaped brass affair. Just below the pommel was the handgrip, built-up to mimic a FS Commando Knife handle, with a built-in leather wrist lanyard. A Google search will yield pictures. I've tried to buy one at auction sites, without success. So the question is, does anyone know anyone who, for a price, will build me one or more. Perhaps even a lengthened one to be an actual walking stick? Thanx in advance for your advice.

Did anyone predict or forecast the rise of ISIS?

I was reading on the web and well, there are different versions of stories according to who writes them!
So I thought I would pop out this question…did any think tanks or politicians predict the rise of ISIS out of the chaos of the Middle East and have any clues as to the horror story that would keep unfolding over there?

On the Dailymail UK website there's an article that Khadifi in Libya supposedly saw future disaster on the horizon for Europe from the chaos.

I know there's a lot of think tanks and foreign affairs and researchers who research and publish articles. It just seems that mainstream media never saw this or choose not to see it coming.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is hiding US$700 million

Najib is accused of ending up with US$700 million in his personal account. At first he denied it and even shut down a Malaysian newspaper for reporting it. But then the Wall Street Journal reported the same thing. Najib threatened to sue, and the WSJ said "go ahead."

Still he declines to say where it actually came from, or how much of it he has now. There has been an uprising among some quarters of the population but he is standing his ground.

Progressive/Liberal Nicknames?

We all know that Progressive Liberals create derogatory names for anyone who opposes their agenda. If you believe in a closed border ... you're a "Xenophobe." If you believe in traditional family and normal relations between men & women ... you're a "Homophobe." If you don't like Obama and his anti-American policies or if you're not a fan of the criminal activities of inner-city gangs then you're a "Racist." If you're opposed to legalizing Crystal Meth then you're "Oppressive."

So I feel it's time to turn the tables on the Libtards. What do you think?

Let's come up with some good terms for describing the Mushbrains who hate common sense tradition; the Constitution; and a man's right to oppose the idiotic philosophies of the far-left Troglogressives. :D:

Steel structures/Pole barns

Looking for acreage in the country(10-30acres) to build a homestead on. Traditional dreams...home,acreage,pond and trees. I have been reading about non-traditional building methods for homesteads and would like your opinions and input. I am considering a pole barn or steel structure as the basis for a home. Estimates are 10-15 dollars a sq.ft construction costs versus 95-100 dollars sq ft for traditional. I know wiring ,framing.and electrical will add to the costs.(Estimates?).
Has anyone on the boards gone this way before? Thoughts? I would probably add a shop on one end and a barn attached to it.

How does one practice Bushcraft in a tallgrass prairie?

Hello,
I am new to the survival arts and crafts skills. Living in the central U.S., I am wondering how something like Bushcraft applies to an ecological region where there are very few tree's that Bushcraft seemingly requires to practice. I speak of the areas where the once vast tallgrass prairie region once stood in the central U.S. Of course now days it's mostly tiny isolated pockets and farm fields. But still, how would someone "Bushcraft" in tallgrass prairie remnants or restored areas were there are no trees?
Thank you

Snowmobile pulled popup camper

We have finished building our RV from scratch (some pics in the DIY section of this forum) and were discussing if it might be fun/reasonable to build a sled camper pulled by one of our snowmobiles.

I am thinking of something similar to a motorcycle pulled camper or a small version of the camper trailers that expedition jeeps pull, but this one would be narrow enough for trail use, light, and on skis.

It would be optimized for cold weather, a small tent that folds out on a platform contained in the trailer so you don't have to set up the tent floor on the snow itself. Perhaps a polyisocyanurate foam core floor, canvas walls, tiny wood burning stove. There would be storage compartments for food/water/fuel and other winter survival gear. Maybe a 100 watt flexible solar panel for the LED lighting and to charge gear.

Does such a beast exist?

Really would like to shoot the Model 69 S&W .44 mag L frame

I got to handle one of these recently. I liked the look of a 4.25" barrel and the gun had great DA and really old school S&W SA trigger pulls.

I really would like to shoot one of these, but think I would add the Hogue grips made for the S&W .500 that fit other N frames. With the scarcity of American revolvers at the present in my stomping grounds, at least the ones I'm interested in, I don't see any shooting ranges adding these to the rentals.

Question about Saiga AKs and their conversion

I see all of these "pre-ban" AKs on armslist and gunbroker that are currently converted into the AK design instead of the sporter configuration. Were any of these AKs imported as the orginal AK layout or were they all sporters that were converted when they got stateside?

I'm asking because I find it hilarious that the people who have them converted are calling them "pre-ban" when one can just convert another sporter into the AK configuration if I'm thinking about this the correct way. I realize that there is a finite supply currently due to the import ban I just find it funny that a converted Saiga is supposedly 2-3x more valuable than a sporter.

The post that got my gears turning: http://ift.tt/1JWxe71

Question about Saiga AKs and their conversion

Hello from the Middle East!

Hello! My name's Alan. I'm from northern Iraq, studying engineering. As you may know, region I'm living in isn't exactly stable, so I decided I wanna start learning as much as I can just in case something happens, since I've always been a bit paranoid (according to the people that know me).

I know some things about a lot of things, I speak 3 languages, currently learning 2 more, and I can pretty much cook anything (except baking croissants, those are hard as hell to make).

I'm open-minded, not racist and I don't discriminate in any way, whatever preconceived notions you may have, you can toss'em out the window with me. You can ask me anything you'd like anytime, and I'll do my best to answer. I'm a nice guy (when I have my tea in the morning) and I've been looking to get involved in a forum for a while, and since many of my friends here don't really have the same mentality, I've decided to come here and join you guys. I've learned english on my own when I was 13 and I've been speaking it ever since, I love the language and I'm an avid reader, as well.

Hello from the Middle East!

variable dc/amp supply?

Maybe not comm related, but ya'll might have an opinon.

Recently cleaned my garage...and my daughters...and a storage unit.Hard to believe all the toys,scooter,electronics,tools,etc...that were battery powered/rechargable.Some of the chargers were missing, seemed like they all needed different voltages and amps, and all different types of connectors/plugs.

Did a search last night and 15$ diy kits to 1000$ commercial units. There were lots of ones in the 50$ range,0-30 vdc and up to 5 amps. That ain't a bad price to fool around and see what still works,or needs new batteries,or is trash.

I'm not asking what the "best" is,just wondering if ya'll use them-what to look for and avoid, not even sure what questions to ask.I'm not messing around with expensive/sensitive computers/electronics..but bunch of old toys, dewalt and BD tools, etc.

House Refurbishment Priority List

As you all probably know, my brothers and I have taken over ownership of my late Fathers house, in which two of us live. The house is really tired and needs a lot of work to be done. I was wondering if anyone else has done a refurb and has a priority list of things to be done.

In an ideal world the we would move out, gut the place and start from scratch but I'm afriad we just don't have the money for that, so it's going to have to be gradually when we have the money etc.

I'd love any tips of how to go about refurbishing, what should come first etc. My brothers will be no help at all, they have their heads burried in the sand. My brother who lives here, is very quick to tell me when something needs to be done, but will not nor ever organise it himself nor do it himself. Everything will be done to this lady to do. Stinkers aren't they!

Do you recommend I do a short DIY course at a local college to get a few things under my belt? I've already had advice from the Estate Agent, who said to either do it up top speck or just to make it liveable for us. We'll probably do the later as we don't have the money to do the first.

Anyway, I'd love any advice, tips, etc you can give.

Thanks
Purdy

House Refurbishment Priority List

Totally unprepared for this!

I wrote about my having to start over in my life in a previous thread and today I discover I've had my head in the sand farther than I thought possible.
I moved into my house last Monday. I've been thinking that the utilities were still in my wife's name amd would get the bills from her and pay them until I transfer everything into my name.
I get home this morning and see that something is not right. The night light I have on my front porch is not on and my kitchen light is not on.
I go inside and have an uncomfortable feeling. I then go out to the electric meter and see a green tag on the meter and feel that somethng not right has occurred.
My cellphone has died and my home phone does not work without electricity, fortunately I have a battery backup for the phone. I cal the electric company and find that the power had been taken over by the previous tenant and had been turned off today, literally.
After jumping through a few hoops I get an appointment to have power restored and billed to me. On Tuesday, after Labor Day.
No refrigeration, no hot water and no power until after they get here Tuesday.
I guess I get to find out how well I'm prepared for a grid down scenario, huh?
No hot water will be the worst I believe.

manual solar tracker

Ok, so perhaps I'm crazy, but I have one pannel (I already had) wired in but not yet mounted, and the rest will be here next week.

I've got good southern exposure but I have noticed how by moving the pannel (from pointing south to west) I can add a couple hours to my gain.

I'm thinking rather than just "tilt" for winter and summer of adding a "pivot point" like a door.
That way, I can leave it fixed, but (Mostly in winter, not worried about having enough power in summer) if I'm here I could swing the pannels around to get perhaps 2 more hours of direct sunlight.

I'm sure there's an appropriate piece of hardware around somewhere...

Crazy?

I'll be working with 1300 W of solar and 880 amp hours, may go up to ~ 1100, and may go up to 1500 W (going to see how it does here first)
2 more hours of sunlight is a considerable addition.

Article II, Clause II of the Constitution

Quote:

He(the President) shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
This clause of the constitution gives the Senate the power of consent for all treaties negotiated by the President. Read it carefully you will realize that this power is independent of the President. It doesn't matter what he calls his treaties. It doesn't matter if he refuses to submit them to the Senate. This power is delegated to the Senate. They can exercise this power at will.

All Senator McConnell has to do is assert that Obama's "Help Iran Build Nuclear Weapons and ICBMs" agreement is a treaty requiring ratification by the Senate and then hold the vote ASAP. This would kill this terrible treaty because Obama doesn't have the sycophants required for 2/3s of the Senators approval for ratification.

The big question is why McConnell is refusing to kill this treaty. Is Obama blackmailing him? Or is he a traitor to his party, the Senate and the citizens who are demanding that he kill this disaster. Demand that he exercises the Senate's power of consent to kill this treaty.

What has God said about polygamy?

Unlike most folks here, I have never had a problem with polygamy (under any of its names). I haven't been looking for it in the Bible because it doesn't pertain to me, but I don't recall reading anything in the Bible that precludes it. Given the veiled nastiness in another thread towards a member here who is polygamous, I figured we ought to have that discussion and put aside any personal bias and see what God has to say about it. Let's see if we can keep it biblical.

Now I had to use Google, because like I said...I've never run across anything in the Bible that explicitly forbids it as I have with other things that God considers sin. Here is a brief look at what I found: http://ift.tt/1EDvmnm

Quote:

Even though one can not possibly determine God’s will by examining the actions and behavior of man, or even God’s response to some of these actions, the major points made by pro-polygamists are

Examples of Biblical Polygamists: There are multiple historical accounts of Biblical polygamists. [Note there are only about eighteen specific examples of polygamy throughout the Old Testament, of which several clearly present polygamy in a negative light].

God gave David Saul’s Wives: The prophet Nathan speaking for God confronting David with the murder of Uriah the Hittite said that he (God) had given David Saul’s wives. [2 Samuel 12:8]

No Explicit Condemnation: Nowhere in the Bible does God explicitly condemn polygamy, the only "condemnation" being implicit and by example. In fact marriages to additional spouses are considered valid in the Scriptures (Jesus’ lineage did not always go through the first wife).

Regulation of Polygamy: Some laws in the Pentateuch do appear to place God’s stamp of approval on polygamy. For example note the rules and guidelines concerning the treatment of multiple wives (specifically prohibiting ill-treatment of the first wife after a second marriage) and the inheritance of the first born, if he happened to be the son of a less favored, wife.

"If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, or her marital rights, [Exodus 21:10]

If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the first-born son be hers that was hated;

then it shall be, in the day that he causeth his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved the first-born before the son of the hated, who is the first-born: [Deuteronomy 21:15-17]
Having spent a portion of my life around poly folks (not Christian ones by any stretch of the imagination), I am taken aback by someone using Christianity to justify what even the poly community considers as the armpit of relationship types, and who wants to meet women half his age who are beautiful or above average in looks. Even so, it isn't the polygamy part that troubled me, it was more that the ad read like "ISO hot, bi, babe."

Although I have referenced the other thread, I really don't want this to be about a particular person or calling anyone out. Let's talk about polygamy and what God says about it, m'kay?

What has God said about polygamy?

Gifts of the Spirit

I have seen it presented in this forum that the "gifts" of Ephesians 4:11 are the same as the "gifts" of Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12. This is not true.

When we do our due diligence and study the original words in Greek, we see that Paul was saying something completely different to the Ephesians (in 4:11) than he was to the Romans and Corinthians in chapters 12.

Let's examine the text:

Ephesians 4:11 (NASB) And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Romans 12:6 (NLT) In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

1st Corinthians 12:1 (NLT) Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. 2 You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. 3 So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.
4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

Summary

Ephesians

In Ephesians 4:11 we see Jesus giving the Church certain positions to people within the Church:
  • for the equipping of the saints for the work of service
  • to the building up of the body of Christ
  • until we all attain to the unity of the faith
  • and of the knowledge of the Son of God
  • to a mature man
  • to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

The word translated as "gave" (NASB) is a common act (a verb) and is the same one we would use to mean that something was passed form one person to another. Here is the word in the Strong's Concordance:

http://ift.tt/1O0Zyex

There is nothing inherently spiritual about it (although those who are in such positions definitely have a spiritual job to do).

What Paul is saying to the Ephesians is that Jesus gave the Church AS A WHOLE the positions of:
  • apostles
  • prophets
  • evangelists
  • pastors
  • teachers

Romans

When speaking to the Romans, Paul gives a very different message of what Jesus gifts each of us with.

The word he uses there is a noun, which is best understood as "charisma". This is a special thing that holds a spiritual significance in the life of the recipient (much different than the common gift of Ephesians 4). You can read the Strong's Concordance entry for this word here:

http://ift.tt/1fY2XNj

The Romans 12 gifts are:
  1. the ability to prophesy
  2. serving others
  3. being a teacher
  4. to encourage others
  5. giving
  6. leadership
  7. showing kindness to others

So, the above gifts are spiritual enablings that are given to individuals for carrying out God's will in service to each other; not offices for people to hold within the Church.

Likewise, Paul lists spiritual gifts to the church in Corinth:

Corinthians
  1. the ability to give wise advice
  2. a message of special knowledge.
  3. great faith
  4. the gift of healing
  5. the power to perform miracles
  6. the ability to prophesy
  7. the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit
  8. the ability to speak in unknown languages
  9. the ability to interpret what is being said (in a foreign language)

1 Cor. 12:11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. (Which goes for the list in Romans 12 as well.)

Conclusion

Reading these three passages, it should be obvious that Paul is making a distinction between the offices held (in Ephesians) and the abilities given (in Romans and Corinthians).

With that said, it can also be said that the people who hold the offices of Ephesians 4:11 have been gifted to perform those offices according to God's will. But caution must be exercised in this. Because the office of Apostle is not a gift of the Spirit, whereas the others could be. Certainly, prophesying, teaching and pastoring (leadership) are gifts of the Spirit. Evangelism is simply a call for all of God's people to engage in and may or may not require special gifting (since it is the Spirit Who quickens men's hearts to accept the Gospel). So, I might argue that we are all evangelists.

Another way to view it is that the Ephesian list is for the Church as a whole; the other lists are for the individual believer.

Therefore, if someone tells you they have the gift of apostleship (or all 5 "gifts" in Eph. 4:11), you can tell them "no, you don't".

Your servant in Christ,

Liberal dilemma: Gay marriage vs sanctuary cities

So the Feds have jailed the Kentucky court clerk who has refused to issue marriage licenses in opposition to the SCOTUS ruling:

http://ift.tt/1EE6RqH

Check the comments section of the article to see the leftists rejoice.

But this brings up a question.

So-called sanctuary cities in my state have determined they will not enforce immigration laws against illegal aliens.

Shouldn't the Feds be jailing police chiefs?

The court clerk is citing religious beliefs as supported by the 1st Amendment in not complying with the court ruling. I personally don't think she has a leg to stand on, but she certainly has a better defense than those leftists in sanctuary cities who are simply acting on political beliefs.

Of course, we'll never see this addressed on any mainstream media outlets...

Best Bug Out Vehicle

Just getting opinions on the best vehicle for **** hits the fan occasions. I had a 88 full size blazer that I believe would have been very good. Pros: It was reliable, easy to fix, no built in gps, 4x4 (very capable), seat 4-5, also could be used like a truck. Cons: Gas Guzzler, Not an actual truck bed. What vehicles would you want if the situation ever arose?

RINO Party after Trump Again

http://ift.tt/1rLo1fb

The RINO party is once again after Trump. They are trying to write Trump out so they can cram another RINO down our throats. I think all they are going to do is galvanize support for Trump. Since the mid-terms the Republicrats have gone right along with what zero wants. They have proven beyond any doubt that there is no difference between the two parties. At this point I would probably vote for Trump or anyone that is not a career politician just to spite them.

New guy in Pennsylvania

Hey!

My name is Mr. Generik, and I'm a developing prepper/survivalist/paranoid nutjob. Nice to meet you all!

I've known about prepping (thought not much) for a very long time, and I'm an experienced hunter, hiker, and veteran, but the actual practice of survival preparation is new to me. So, after I was able to pin down some specific questions I had, I thought I'd come on over and make an account here, since it seems to be one of the most active and informative forums out there about what I'm looking for.

A little about me, I'm a 28 year old man living in northwestern Pennsylvania. Veteran of the Navy, which provided me with more survival training than you'd think, but less than I'd like. So I'm here for some general advice (what camos suit what terrain, etc), as well as to learn and share anything that might be useful to myself or others. Keeping the world alive, right?

I hope I get what I need, and I hope I can even wind up helping others, too. Again, nice to meet you all, and I'm looking forward to some discussion!

My first AK!

So I finally bought an AK, a Century arms Romanian. Really I bought it because I felt bad. I know a good bit about a lot of different firearms, but not a darn thing about the most popular rifle in the world. I always said, "I like AR's and M1A's, why would I need an AK?" I still think that's mostly true, but I wanted to learn about the AK.

I took it to the range....once. It shot just fine I suppose, for about 10 rounds. Then I took a shot and it shot twice (and the next round chambered but did not fully work the action as it wouldn't fire). After a few more rounds it shot 3 times, and the same malfunction occurred. I was on a bench and thought maybe I was bump-firing somehow. So I stood up and it kept doing the same thing, 2-3 round bursts followed by a malfunction. I admit it was pretty fun but I was a little concerned about the legalities of the thing so I took it back to my gun shop (after 30 rounds). Either Century or the distributor (I didn't ask who) bought it back for me.

I thought it was funny that my first experience with "the most reliable gun in the world" wouldn't run more than 10 rounds in a row for me. I'm not knocking the AK at all, in fact I asked the gun shop to order another one just like it for me (hopefully not JUST like it).

Do any of you AK guys know of this being common or am I just that lucky?

Over/under & cause of Clinton aide's pending 'accidental' death?

This poor guy has to be looking over his shoulder:

http://ift.tt/1LMsLay

A Clinton aide who set up Herself's server has been subpoenaed by the House panel investigating Benghazi, but he has already indicated he will invoke the Fifth Amendment to avoid incriminating himself.

Obviously, this will be the guy who cuts the deal for immunity in order to testify.

So I'll start the pool: Sept 22, suicide, by a gunshot to the head.

I almost picked the method of death as being killed by a hit and run driver in a crosswalk, but this is the Clintons we're talking about...

What are the usage differences between a knife, hatchet, machete, etc.?

Hello,
I'm new to the outdoor world. What are the fundamental usage differences between a knife, axe, hatchet, folding saw and a machete?
Also it seems like some of the usages overlaps, so where exactly do they overlap? And perhaps I should also ask where do the mis-uses or incorrect uses lay where one should be used instead or in place of another?
Thank you

Are you "Investing" now for the collapse? why or why not?

I feel as though this may be the last window to heavily invest in several items:

Gold & Silver - currently at very low prices

AR & AK rifles - currently at ridiculously low prices and market is saturated

Most calibers of ammo - once again easily available and at pre-panic prices

what else would be a good store of value? The above list (in my opinion) will at minimum double in value over the next 5 years (be it standard or black market).

just 2 years ago (during the panic) a standard bushmaster AR was selling for $1500 to $2000 - today they are $509

Silver was closing in on $50 and ounce and gold on $2000 ---- look at them now!

5.56 ammo was selling at or above $1/round - now its back to "normal"

thoughts???

(please don't suggest the stock market - I would put my cash on a craps table before wizzing it away to wallstreet)

Interesting CERN Factoids

Some interesting CERN factoids which I just discovered after some cursory research:

---CERN is the birthplace of the World Wide Web

---Israel is the first(and currently only) non-European country granted full- membership(2014).

---The US only has observer status at CERN(since 1997).

---The following are the top financial contributors to CERN(2014 stats):

Germany 18.5%
France 14%
UK 12.7%
Italy 10.5%

---Israel only contributes 1.8% to the total CERN budget.

---John Titor, a self-proclaimed time travel, alleged that CERN would invent time travel in 2001.

Been talking with friends and paying attention to the slow collapse of our country. From local terrorism to isil and worldwide economic failure. Facts. So many are oblivious to what is going on that it is to the point of pathetic. I just ran across this man today. I sure wish we had more men like him.
This is when he received the medal in 81 from Pres. Ronald Reagan but towards the end he gives a speech in 91. A Green Beret in 1968. The ending will just blow you away. At least it did me. I would love to see a movie made of this gentleman and what he went through.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I'm sure someone on the left will try to make it political and blame the gun.

Two idiots in Texas "found" a gun and decided to take selfies with it. The gun "went off" and shot a poor undeserving teen who was due to start college the next day (aren't they all) in the throat.

Well... one less idiot in the world. I call this a win for humanity.

Sleeping bag or go heavy on blankets for truck bed camping?

I plan on doing a lot of car camping this fall and winter around the western and desert states. I'm staying away from snow as much as possible, I don't do snow. I have a shell (topper) and I built a sleeping platform in the back with a mattress. The whole back is uninsulated and I don't know how cold it gets back there since I only gotten the shell a few months ago. Its an oven in the summer.

Do I get a nice sleeping bag or go with some regular twin size blankets? I also have a Buddy Heater on hand.

Scope advice

I would be very grateful for some advice here.
I have the following firearms:
WWI Lee Enfield .303
91/30 Mosin Nagant 7.62x54R
TOZ-78 .22LR with scope
M1 Carbine .30Carb.
Winchester Defender 12/70
I am toying with the idea of getting 1 more scope for my rifles.
Which one should I do ?
I am an okay shooter but don't have the possibility of practicing long range shooting.
What you guys/gals do ?

Thanks for your input

Winter Approaches

Got the Blizzaks mounted on rims for my son's vehicular today. While I was waiting I looked into winter tires for my truck. Damn E rated tires are spendy.

I am looking at the Toyo open country studless winter tires (WTL1). That or Blizzaks. Haven't made up my mind yet. Anyone with some opinions, I would love to hear them (about these two types of tires, keep the rest to yerself! :D: )

also...

For those of us in the Fairbanks area, #2 heating oil (the pick it up yourself kind at sourdough fuels) is cheaper than it has been in a while. I paid 2.29 a gallon (for a little over 300 gallons). That is 10 cents cheaper than it was last Friday.

The line was long, and I will be back there again this week. I would probably **** bricks if it got under 2.00 a gallon. I would have to buy another tank.

Weird looking tumor on bunnies

I have a young bunny (4 months old) that I noticed about a month ago that she was developing a tumor like growth on the tip of her nose. It didn't seem to bother her and it didn't seem to be causing her any pain so I figured that she might have poked it on a piece of wire or mosquito or spider bite. It hasn't gone away and seems to have stopped growing. It's about the size of a berry. In fact, it looks like a berry.
Tonight I noticed my young momma bunny has something growing in between her mouth and nose. It looks almost like the same things bunny #1 started out with. Then I noticed another bunny has the beginning growth as well.
What do you think this may be? I don't think it a bite from an insect.
It doesn't look like an infection either.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any help,
Joe

Putin says dump dollar

Interesting article and as it stands, it would do little to the dollar as these markets are so minuscule in the grand scheme of things, however, this does at least lend more credence to theory of both China and Russia wanting to buck the US dollar as the worlds reserve currency. In all honesty, it's hard for me not to realize the reality of the dollar going belly up!

Personal SHTF, how to make lemonade out of lemons?

Alright so as of about 5 hours ago I am more than likely unemployed.

I'm not being fired, but rather laid off.

I recently EAS'd from the USMC after 4.5 years of the best worst time of my life. I have a BA in history (only a 2.8 GPA though because my first two years I was grossly irresponsible and it took me another 2.5 years to graduate doing academically well in school just to achieve that with excellent grades). I served as an enlisted 0311 because I wanted to shoot terrorists in the face for my country.

Just yesterday I was planning a next major prep upgrade with my firearm collection. I was going to drop upwards of 2 grand on that. Now thank god I have savings. I have the complete respect from my employers and actually they got screwed too. I actually got my last job a week after I took terminal leave (I was still enlisted but got to use my saved vacation time and an extra 20 days the military gave me as a bonus) and it seemed to be the perfect transition to the civilian world.

I'm thinking about jumping right back into the military but I didn't keep myself within height and weight standards and gained 40 pounds. Who knew constant PT would keep one in shape!

I have my education benefits can I start using but that can't start until next semester. I need to pay the bills now! My boss is going to try to get me a month's severance package which will help but even once I get that I am on my own.

I'm honestly just lost now. I had an entire year to plan my future because my current job was supposed to last until November 2016 and serve as a fantastic resume builder. It literally paid me twice as much as my E4 pay.

Now...well now I have to figure things out asap and I don't know were to begin!

Should I try to get back in the military? Lose 40 lbs (in 4-6 weeks tops!) and fight the NJP that will hold me back too?!

Move into my parents house and find a crappy job to pay the bills until I can go pursue a nursing degree (I got accepted at UWF in Pensacola Florida for the pre nursing program but that doesn't guarantee acceptance into the actual nursing program) and apply at schools in Va or Fl (I am still a Florida resident but am in Virginia currently).

Should I try to stick it out in Virginia and try to get into the apprentice program at the shipyard and find a technical job working on naval vessels? I sorta have an in with that as well.

I just dunno what to do right now. I feel frustrated and let down with the job I had. I had planned to use it to get ahead and now I am just worried about tomorrow!

What's the story with Japanese diesels in the US? Or better the lack of it?

I have been passed by a tons of imported SUV's with massive diesel engines, German, Italian. BMW, Mercedes. Jeeps.
Even the tiny Chevy Cruze packs a small turbo diesel.

I would love to petition Yota to bring this Australian beauty to US.

Hi from Finland

Hi to 'yall, comms check from 60 degrees north. Been gathering intel in here for some time, but now stepping out from the dark.

I think I could be described as a hard core survivalist, been that from the cold war era for understandable reasons considering Finland's geopolitical situation between NATO and Soviet Russia. Living in the countryside in the middle of hunting grounds, self sufficient with water, not yet off the grid but getting there. Have friends with similar grasp of reality living around me, farmers, DIY tech wizards, blacksmiths etc. building a network of local people with whom you can build a small but viable community if anything dramatic happens to the current infrastructure. I believe in the power of a community, not running to the hills unless there's really nothing else left to do (like a barrel of a MBT knocking your front door).

Some military and PMC background, work on the side as a tactical/weapons instructor for an American company, currently an active reservist with war time duties at Naval Intelligence here in Finland. They don't let us old FAGs run around in the woods and shipyards with guns blazing anymore... :)
