Filtering Cooking Oil

Depending on what you are cooking you can easily reuse oil a few times (sunflower fan myself) provided you cool, strain and store rapidly. You can't reuse oil on fish, I think it must have to do with the natural fish oils that leech out but it isn't shelf or refrigerator stable after 24 hours. I guess that why when you are doing a fish fry they go all in.

If doing yam, potato or really any veggie I've had a lot of success reusing a small (2-6oz) amount of oil for many batches but I double filter, one just after everything has been coated then pop in the fridge. I filter again (coffee filter) one more time to catch anything the first filter missed.

It's a great way to extend your cooking oil before reverting it to either trap bait (if used cooking fish) or lantern fuel or if really brave and have a diesel generator - electricity. Still need to get the solids out but not as fine.

Great post.
