OK on the Taylor Jim Gullette Conglomeration in otherwords

fixing up a older Hollow Handle, making it work. to start with this is the original pieces. a Gullette design sling bow/ knife .It was new in the box, and Taylor shortcutted Jims original design. BAD.

when i got it, the sheathes were dryrotted in the box, the arrows had never been fired, but were loose to the point of being dangerous to the user, and the knife? well the knife blade was canted over at a angle (alignment edge wasnt ground flat) and the retainer, the piece that supports the tang and holds it tightly in place, was not only plastic, but superglued to the thing they called a cross guard, (flat/phillips head POS)
I tried to loosen a screw with it., and the flat bit promptly bent. like it was made of rubber.

the 2 redeeming features, #1. the sling bow. It is made well.
#2, the saw back. IT really is a saw-back. double cut, think its the most usable saw back Ive ever seen.

anyway, the second group of 4 pics are the Brass plug I made to replace the plastic insert, the distance from pin i machined off the plug so that it would actually tighten, (wouldn't have to use glue) the allow tube i found to fit the hollow handle, ( to replace the plastic tube, holds 10 life boat matches) the Lugged cross guard i machined out., (had already tried a oval and a flat, they looked like snot)

anyway, I still have to shape and finish the cross guard, and seal the tube,
but the blade (surgical steel) was worth saving to use, and i like the lugged guard better than the utility piece of meat it had on it.

Hey Jungle Work, what ya think so far? next is sheath, pouch for the bow attachment, and I got to make some arrows/darts......

Let's block ads! (Why?)
