scopes: x40 vs x50

it really depends on what conditions you will be hunting in and the average range. Problem with 50mm bells is that you need a higher scope mount to keep the bell from touching the barrel which may require you to get a higher cheek rest for your stock. Not ideal IMO.

A 50mm lense will typically be brighter and have greater FOV but I have seen higher quality optics in a 40mm lense which were both brighter and had a greater FOV at 100-yards than the 50mm scope. I am a bigger fan of the 30mm tubes over the 1-inch tubes, if that matters. WHATEVER YOU DO BUY THE BEST OPTICS YOU CAN AFFORD. Preferably with a lifetime warranty.

For most applications for a 30-06 a 3-9x40 scope is all that you will ever need. Make sure you get a scope and scope base to handle the recoil.
