Anyway, this allows you to carry enough ammunition to get TO your BOL in one piece (hopefully), without having to carry a crate of munitions on you. With us, it runs like this:
SKS, two spare 30rd mags, and 180rds on stripper clips
12 gauge shotgun, 6 rounds on sidesaddles, 25 rounds in bob
sidearm, 3 spare mags on belt, two spare mags and 50 rounds ammo in bob
It's a day's walk to the bol if we had to hoof it, and I figure that's enough to get us there.
Since you run an AR (I assume), you would want to carry at least 180 rounds plus what's in the rifle. This amounts to 6 spare mags. You can probably get away with carrying a couple more mags in your BOB, but remember, you have to consider food, water, firestarting, first aid gear, a knife, and a myriad of other IMPORTANT things too.
Hope this helps. Like I said, this is just my opinion. SOme old rangers like to go ammo-heavy and light on other supplies, and others will argue that you need more water and food, and less in the way of guns and ammo. Set your load up and hump it a while, re-prioritize. See what needs to stay and what needs to go that's the best way to go.
3 gun bug out?
