Prepare for next hurricane

I’m not worried about much left this year. Still haven’t picked up the downed limbs and trees from Irma. I’m always in hurricane preparedness/prep mode. Irma was the first storm I boarded up for in ten years. Hermine had worst winds last year than Irma did by the time she reached us. Keeping the boards up and watching Maria kept the house much cooler. So I am looking at building functional, decorative shutters that we can use all year long.

Also my generator is pushing seven years old. So watching the holiday sales thinking about picking up a second 7-8KW that is dual fuel. As I want to run the AC next time the power is out. With two generators, I’ll just set up the AC to run on one and everything else on the other. If one goes down, the other can be used to keep the water running.

Last item I am adding to the inventory is a toy hauling travel trailer. I have been wanting one for a while. Some place to bug out to if I fight with the old lady. Also the get her and the kid away for the weekends. Watching all the Irma refugees pass my town and every other one having a travel trailer or RV. It just made sense to get one. That way we wouldn’t be dependent on friends or hotels. I’m only worried about leaving if a big one comes out of the Gulf across the peninsula.

Something still researching and considering is a 12v well pump. Having only a 4” casing it would be hard to sister on up underneath my 240v pump. Might just a cheap Chinesse model and keep it handy. As I can pull my well pump by hand, if I needed to install another pump in a hurry. Also thinking about adding interior and exterior lighting. So I can have plenty of light without the generator. As I just happened to spot some looters at 2AM when Irma was hitting. They where eyeballing my small boat parked near the road to keep it away from the trees.
