cinder block and straw bale home.

Thumbs downcinder block and straw bale home.

Gotta idea... I want to build a cinder block and straw bale home. The cinder blocks would form an inner and outer wall, and the straw bale would be placed between the two walls. Would this idea work in the central Texas or Texas hill country area?

Hey all

DefaultHey all

Here from Front Royal Va and looking forward to sharing with you all. Carpenter here. Love shooting, getting the bike out, and defending our constitution. Just picked up a couple hand held radios, so i'll be elbow deep in those books for a while. At least until it's warm enough for the bike and or range.

Republicans Only: Who do you now support for President?

Default

To vote in the primary in Florida you have to register as an R or D. I registered R changed from I in order to support Trump. Trump lost my support when he came out in favor of the individual mandate. Should have registered D and voted Bernie in order to help defeat kankles.

VICELAND? Where's my Ancient Aliens?!!!

WTH is going on with H2 (History Channel 2)? WTH is Viceland? I actually had to check to make sure it wasn't April 1st. Then I checked to see if DISH was having one of their disputes with a provider. Will someone turn on H2 and tell me WTH I am seeing? A countdown to greatness?

New member from central lower Michigan

Hi. New member from Michigan. Glad to be here and looking forward to learning and maybe joining in a discussion or two. Wife and I have been gardening for most of our lives and we can, dry and dehydrate, and put up as much of our own produce as we are able to. Our last garden was all heriloom/open pollinated seeds and plants. I have been an avid hunter/fisher/trapper for most of my life and I am also learning about herbal medicines. My next project (on down the road a ways) will be ham radio/communications.

Anyway, thanks for having me and as I said I'm looking forward to learning and participating.

Hello. I'm new

Hello. I'm new to this forum and sort of new to being prepared. I say sort of new, because I was in the Marine Corps for 6 years and always had a plan and a small gear list ready. With recent events, the current presidency, and the new presidential candidates, me and my wife felt it is definitely time to be more prepared.

I don't make much money so I'm slowly but surely getting a 3 day BoB together for my self to carry, and a smaller pack for my wife.

Being in South West Louisiana, and growing up here, I've hunted, fished, and hiked all the wooded areas with in, I'd say at least a 50 mile radius. I have spots, routes, and alternatives laid out already.

I joined this forum to get more ideas about how to pack a BoB, and to better prep my BoL. Also more ideas for extended stay in any bug out locations.

In your opinion is the Second Amendment about hunting, sporting, and self defense OR is the Second Amendment about shooting tyranical jack boot thugs in the face if We the People have decided we have had enough?

What restrictions on firearms do you support or would like to see abolished?

Do you think citizens have the natural right all forms of firearms and accessories without any restrictions such as machine guns and suppressors?

In your opinion should felons that have served their sentences and have been released be barred from firearms ownership or should that right be reinstated?

What lice taught us

I attempted to post this yesterday but it never showed up. So if it does sorry for the double post.

Anyway, on February 17 we discovered that our daughter had contracted head lice and a trip to the pediatrician confirmed this. He recommended the typical OTC treatments, but they were only effective on the live lice and not the eggs. Luckily a friend of ours has been through this before and came over to help.

Her lice removal kit consisted of the following:

1. White gooey conditioner such as Pantene
2. Baking soda
3. A high quality steel lice comb specifically this one. http://ift.tt/1LOM8y9
4. Lots of paper towels.

In about two hours our daughter was lice and nit free without the need of any more chemical treatments and a follow up visit today confirmed this.

Not once did I nor my wife ever think of having lice removal supplies on hand as part of or preps. We do now and I would recommended that everyone have these supplies in their stock. Sometimes thing happen for a reason....

Change my mind about owning a gun

I was thinking of getting a compact pistol to conceal carry within the year, but I recently talked myself out of it.

It just seems unnecessary. I am not against guns or some hippie, if you want to carry, carry. Personally, I just don't see how carrying a gun would make me safer. It seems like a lot of hassle for not much of a reward. Buying the gun, buying accessories, getting a CCW permit, buying ammo, target practice, range fees, carrying it day in and day out, not to mention the legal and emotional toll that would follow actually having to use a firearm in a self defense scenario. If you weren't dead by the act, you're going to wish you were dead when the family sues, court fees, etc. i've done research and I've heard that there's upwards of $50k in expenses following a shooting, and that's not to mention the lost time and lost wages, etc. I'm not military so I don't know what it's like to kill someone but I lost a very good friend to suicide a year and a half ago and there's thoughts that run through my mind constantly about what I could have done differently, feeling like I was responsible... I couldn't really imagine what it would be like to actually pull a trigger and kill someone. I've seen what a violent death does to a family....

Just from a statistical standpoint, there's about a 1% chance that you'll ever be in a self defense situation where things can't be talked out or deescalated and that you'll have to pull, or use a gun. Less than 1%...that's like winning the lottery...

What do you think? I don't know what to think. If you're wondering, I am mentally stable, I just have a lot on my mind some days.

Respectful opinions please. I have no issues with guns. I just don't know if owning one is right for me. Looking for someone to change my mind.

Really High Cliff Jumping Location 200+ Feet

Hello!

I need your help to find a location where cliff jumping from 200+ feet is possible. I will not be jumping myself or anyone else for that matter, its for a research paper. Preferably the location should be in fresh water (lake, ponds, etc) and not the ocean. Also its even better if the location is in a "tropical" place (California, Arizona, Hawaii, South America, Africa, etc), anywhere hot!

I am able to find location between 120-180 feet easily, but nothing above 200+ feet.

Thank you for your help!

ProMag 30rd SKS Magazines?

I have read a great many negative reviews about the 30 round polymer SKS magazines that ProMag produces. I don't know whether or not they had designs flaws in the past which have been rectified in newer products, or whether it was operator error that caused the malfunctions reported.

My family and MAG uses the SKS, purpose built (And yes, 922r compliant) rifles as our mainstay survival firearms. The mags work flawlessly. They fit tightly into the mag well, cycle without a hitch, and you can reload them from stripper clips easily in a pinch. Some have reported the lip on the duckbill snapping off, but once again this has never happened to me. I've not had much luck with the black steel mags, which seem to need constant tweaking with pliers, and seem to cause feeding issues regularly.

I was just wondering why ProMag gets so much bad PR. Anyone else care to weigh in?

Preps attracting the wrong attention

DefaultPreps attracting the wrong attention

Hello all, I've been offline for a while as I was completing my concrete pill box ,
all went well and as I saw it in my visions I can now quickly move from my main home through a corridor and into my pill box which overlooks the front of my property, I've calculated I can lay down enough suppressive fire power to stop at least a 5 man unit... All good ,
however on the last day of my concrete pours our meddling county building inspector showed up and was snooping about,
I believe I have him believing that the pill box is just a partially above ground root cellar, but all last week I've noticed unmarked sedans and SUVs in my area cruising past.
My fear is that i am now on "there" watch list. If this keeps up next week I'm planning on taking my BOV out for a little cruise and see if I can lure them into a pursuit to confirm my suspicions.
Has anyone else drawn the ire of "them" while working on major preps?

Rubio and Fox News & Gang of 8...

As most know, the above titled group sold us out. The absolute attempt to get the 'free press' to sell it to us. This is a New York Times article that all should read how Rubio was a face man to get conservative talk radio would sell it as well as Fox News.

The concerted effort of the Gang of 8 and our Goebbelsesque media. Most around here are more hardcore than me but I'm apoplectic about the state of our country. Our 'FREE PRESS' is a more sophisticated Pravda/Tass.

Please read the article and prepare to have steam coming out of your ears.

Korea fighting "Patriot Act"

DefaultKorea fighting "Patriot Act"

Seems the South Korean government wants an Anti Terror bill like America's Patriot Act.

But the opposition party has gone for a whale of a fillibuster. Already 90 hours long (!) they hope to hold out until March 10th by showing up in sneakers, reading from lawbooks and Orwell's 1984, and refusing water so to avoid bathroom breaks.

An old fashioned filibuster to protect privacy and personal freedoms.

I love it.

Finally finished my AR build

Here's my parts list:

* Anderson Mfg. - Upper+lower receivers; .223 Wylde, 18", fluted S/S bull, 1:8" twist, mid gas length barrel; adjustable gas block and s/s gas tube, flash hider
* Fail Zero Nickel Boron BCG
* FireTac Sports 15" UL Keymod hand guard, FDE
* Monstrum Tactical 3-9x32 range finding, lighted reticle scope
* Seekins Precision ambi safety selector
* generic guard end cap
* 45* battle sights
* Strike Industries dust cover
* Hunter Select end cap/sling mount

* The A2 grip and milspec buffer tube and stock - and a CMC 2 stage competition trigger - I got CHEAP from one of my lieutenants at work....$60 for all of it. I'll eventually replace the stock and hand grip with FDE but for now, she works.

I'm left-eye dominant but right handed and that's why the rifle is set up this way. One change I did make to it after taking pictures was that I moved the rear iron sight to the back of the receiver and the scope forward 3 slots on the rail.
