Harrisonbug has a fairly large number of hams. You're going to find that -- if you stick yourself out there -- many of them will assist you.

I lived not all that far from you in "Fort Valley" VA for many years. Bet you don't even know where that is.

I also have had the exact experience (an apartment in Virginia) that you did when starting out. I had just got discharged from the Navy, was working the Red Cross in D.C. (this was April of 1970) and I had an apartment in Arlington.

I taped (honest, TAPED!) a wire antenna known as a folded dipole to the living room wall and proceeded to work the world on CW. Well maybe not the world...

I know it may be your only choice. Prepare for the remainder of your life to ALWAYS live in a house with tons of tall trees. Very tall trees.
