Looking for some second opinions on my next rifle purchase.

I currently own an AR 15 with an Adams Arms piston block. Love it. Probably won't ever get rid of it. However, as a fan of the gas piston system in rifles, I've been looking at making the jump to the most famous one, the AK. I've been weighing the pros and cons, but keep coming out without a decisive answer. I was wondering if you guys could add input or correct misconceptions I have. Here it goes:

Another AR with Piston, Pros: -Scope rail is part of the rifle, removing the worry of zero loss due to it shifting. -Shoots common ammo (5.56, 300 blk, and .308) with plenty of mags and parts for each. -Rifle and ammo are easier to add suppressors should I want to -generally lighter and more ergonomic. -Parts and mods are easy to imstall and fit -Can easily swap uppers and barrels

Cons: -The pistons for ARs aren't the most robust pieces of metal -Can be tricky to find a handguard that fits the piston

AK Pros: -All metal parts are extremely robust - Very solid magazine seating and charging action -7.62x39 is very common ammo, and some AKs use 5.56 -again, magazines everywhere -I just have a "thing" for it. If you asked me why I couldn't tell you, I just do.

Cons: -Parts are rare, and most are subject to importation changes -Barrels (to my knowledge) cannot be replaced by myself with basic tools -some common AK calibers like 5.45 are also import restricted and don't have brass ammo.

What I'll use it for: -99.99% of the time, fun at the range. -It will serve as a bug out/shtf rifle. The worst thing I can foresee using it for is fending off rioters/looters in a time of civil unrest should they make myself and mine their target. I don't need to snipe zombies at 600yds. For home defense, I'll have my 9mm.

Sorry there isn't a TLDR version. Any insights are welcome!
