1. It's nearly impossible to compete with online commerce. So your store will have to offer things that are not easily purchased online.
2. You are 7 years late to the market hype. "Prepping" as a fad is over. I think people that are serious about it are also bargain hunters so again you will be competing on margin against some large online players.
3. Every outdoor store over-laps with a large percentage of what you can sell. And "outdoor store" is more inviting to the general public than "prepper store" or "survivalist central" or "EOTW Mart". Even though EOTW Mart is kind of funny.
4. Location... as in being located where natural disasters happen. Then at least you have a local base to pander to.
Any non-service, non-food, brick and motor is extremely difficult this days. And your target market are a bunch of DIY, bargain hunters. Tough racket.
