OK, completely disagree with her politics. And she looks like a very intelligent person whose body is failing, a la Hawkings. Though not quite as far yet.

House Dems ready to use 100-year-old law to reveal Trump’s tax returns

While you all are busy watching the kabuki theater (bukake theater if Avenetti whines enough to have Julie Swetnick's bizarre claims investigated):

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018...-midterms.html

This has absolutely nothing to do with oversight. It is all about the continued harassment of a duly-elected sitting President of the United States of America.

Meanwhile, in Maryland:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018...x-returns.html

And, some common sense from that state:

Quote:

The measure passed the Democrat-controlled state Senate with support from all but four Democratic senators, though some Democrats, along with their Republican colleagues, balked at the legislation.

“Show me in the Constitution where it says that’s a qualification for being president of the United States,” said state Sen. James Brochin, a Democrat representing Baltimore County, according to the Baltimore Sun. “We can’t go along and make up rules when we don’t like the president of the United States.”

Senate Minority Whip Stephen Hershey, a Republican, called the measure “the most childish bill that I’ve ever seen.”

Good optic for lever action 30-30 Winchester

Someone recommend a good optic for a Marlin 336 lever action in 30-30 Winchester.

I am currently looking at a Burris Fullfield II 2x-7x-35mm. Over the decades my "go to" optics have been Nikon. They have provided years of reliability on various rifles my family owns. Then there is the Bushnell line of scopes.

I would like to try something new, new and that is why I am looking at the Burris Fullfield II 2x-7x-35mm.

Location: Southeast Texas

Longest shot: Maybe 100 yards. Typically around 75 yards or so.

Game: Whitetail deer

In 2018 I bought a used Marlin 336 that was made in 1976. Looking at the receiver screws and the top of the receiver, it looks like no optic was ever mounted on the rifle.

To compliment this nice older Marlin 336, I would like to mount a nice optic on it.

Suggestions?

CA Bans Gun Sales to Anyone Younger than 21

Among the other bad things California governor Jerry Brown has recently signed into law, we find among them a prohibition on firearm sales to anyone younger than 21. A few exemptions reportedly exist (for police, members of the military, and those with a valid hunting license). As a lifelong Floridian, I must sadly report that[.....]

CA Bans Gun Sales to Anyone Younger than 21

Don't be this guy.

I was supposed to meet with a couple of groups at Deep Creek Hot Springs in the Mojave Desert near today. On my way out I got distracted by my GPS.

Now, I know how to get to Bowen's Ranch which is one of the trailheads to the hot springs. I thought I'd try the GPS on my cell phone as an experiment. Instead of turning onto Bowen Ranch Road it had me turn onto Jaratul Road, which is 3 blocks shy of where I wanted to go. I took it anyhow just to see what I could see.

Jaratul Road turns into Juniper Flats Road. While Jaratul is a graded dirt and gravel road, Juniper Flats Road is a 4WD high clearance road. So I am merrily tooling along and the road gets worse by the minute. I am driving my red Suzuki SX4 which I have lifted 2 inches and installed a skid plate under the engine specifically so I can go off road with it. My black Suzuki Sidekick is my real off-roader (larger tires, more clearance, big tread, low range gearing) but was left at home due to lack of A/C. Then I pass this unfortunate vehicle, a RAV 4, completely bottomed out.

The car was abandoned. I waited a while just to see if the driver was coming back and a tow truck showed up and pulled him out. Not a good day for him. (Assuming a male but doesn't have to be.) Out of state plates so the driver is likely unfamiliar with the area. Probably had to walk miles to get cell reception. Since I didn't pass him on my way in, he probably had walked more miles just to get to a place the tow truck driver could find him. Backcountry towing on those kinds of roads will be VERY expensive. IIRC, there is only one company that will go back there.

Wonder if he used a GPS to get there? Maybe he was trying to get to Deep Creek. It has an international reputation.

Heaven only knows what kind of damage he did to his underside. Might easily have destroyed his oil pan, his exhaust or even his differential.

I know I could have gotten myself out of there. My skid plate would have protected mission critical parts. Break out ye olde shovel and start digging that hump down. Use the jack to lift the vehicle up and place rocks and dirt under the wheels. In my aged & decrepit state that could take hours. Water and food to last for days. If it were hot, I'd wait for evening to start.

More importantly, I wouldn't have gotten myself into that situation. I have a general rule of not driving in deep ruts. If the driver had only positioned his truck 3 feet to the left, he'd have been fine.

I have another rule of driving slowly on dicey terrain. Drive fast and you cannot react in time. Hit the brakes and you keep sliding forward into what you want to avoid. You don't have enough time to analyze the terrain and pick the correct line to take. When you hit something, the energy is proportional to the square of the velocity. Hitting that rock or dip at 20 instead of 10 will cause 4 times as much damage to tires, suspension and undercarriage.

Experience will tell you where your wheels are and how much clearance you have and prudence tells you when not to push it. Common sense should tell you that a RAV 4 is NOT a real off road vehicle. And All Wheel Drive (AWD) ain't as good on the trails as 4 Wheel Drive (4WD).

I continued cautiously on my way. The GPS directed me to an abandoned quarry. At that point it told me to turn right. There was nothing there to turn onto. I kept on to the quarry where the GPS was telling me to turn around, so I did. On my way back, it frantically told me to Turn left! Turn left! I ignored it, and returned whence I came, making sure to drive down the same rutted road the other driver did and easily making it past the nasty spot.

Bowen Ranch Road was 3 blocks further east. One would think that the GPS would have indicated to take Bowen Ranch Road to get to Bowen Ranch, whose address is on that very same road. Bowen Ranch Road is a well graded dirt and gravel road that ordinary street cars can travel. The last bit after passing onto the property and getting to the parking area gets a little rough so you want to take care but some of the cars parked there only had about 4 inches of clearance. Almost anyone can do it.

Juniper Flats Road would eventually get you to Bowen Ranch but it would be a rough ride. I went back and took the easy way instead. The GPS probably selected it because you might save a fraction of a mile in distance but then it wanted me to turn off into deep brush and soft sand where there was no road at all. Good grief!

Now imagine you are NOT an off-road driver with many decades of experience, who is prudent and has a vehicle modified for the terrain. Unfamiliar with the area, you are following your GPS into empty wilderness because that is what it said to do. You don't have extraction tools. You don't have cell service. You don't have a satellite communicator. You don't have gallons of water and you don't have anyone expecting you home soon. No extra fuel. You aren't in a convoy or on a road with regular traffic.

Now you have gotten stuck like the guy in the RAV 4, only so far out that cell service is days away, and environmental conditions are brutal. I am unlikely to come across you on a lark to see how badly my GPS screwed up.

Don't be that person either. You could end up dead.

Are women really equal to men?

Men and women are very far from equal and that's in our biology, not some social construct.
Also, women are not considered in our society to be less than men, they are held in regard far higher than men. We put our women on a pedestal, we do all the hard work, provide them with a home to do the things with and for our family that we lack the capacity to do.
Both sexes have strengths and weaknesses and are supposed to compliment each other when we select a mate.

Truth is the only reason women do well in careers today is because of the industrial revolution, women we physically and emotionally incapable of doing the work men had to do before the industrial revolution. To this day there are jobs where women are extremely absent, not because companies won't hire them but because they won't apply for them. Those jobs still need to be done so men fill the roles in the absence of women, so it's okay for men to work the deadly jobs, we don't want those, but you have to accommodate me in this other job.

For a reality check for the feminazis, the Williams sisters are considered world class athletes, but are they? They're world class female athletes, but not world class in general.
They themselves said they're world class and can beat any male tennis player outside of the top 200, that doesn't sound world class to me. In fact a male tennis player agreed to take their challenge. He played a round of golf, drinking beers while he played, then the same day played and beat both Williams sisters. I think he was ranked just inside the top 200.

We need the dynamic of men and women complimenting each other and the attack on the patriarchy is as much responsible for the problems in our society as any other problem today.

1950's Cold War Strategic Air Command (SAC) Long Range Bomber Crew Survival Knife!

Over half a century ago the United States Air Force was America's primary nuclear deterrent. This was accomplished by its long range bomber aircraft operated by the Strategic Air Command, the B-36, the B-47 and later on the B-52. ICBMs came along even later. To maintain razor sharp proficiency in the nuclear mission long range training missions were an daily occurrence and took airmen over every corner of the world. The Air Force became interested in refining its survival kits and equipment, particularly for arctic and alpine regions, as the fastest way to the targets in the Soviet Union was often over the polar route. Training missions sometimes turned into real life survival events.

In the late 1940's, General Curtis LeMay, the head of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), authorized the creation of a survival kit for the crews of the long range bombers. Requirements were to be an effective tool for survival in the wild, with the ability to perform a number of functions to include field dressing and cleaning fish. As part of that effort the Air Force in the early 1950s adopted a sheath knife for use in the E-1 Survival Kit. It was intended to be a tool, not a weapon, and weight was a major consideration. That knife was the Boker 155, a blade that is little known today among blade collectors. Indeed, but for researcher/author Frank Trzaska's efforts the history of this knife would likely have remained lost in the mists of time. In 2002 Frank wrote an article published in Knife World which finally revealed the identity of this little knife. The Boker 155 had never before appeared in any of the major military blade books.

The Boker had an overall length of 8 3/4", a 4 1/2" blade, a stacked leather handle, and aluminum guard and pommel. It was carried in a unique pouch or tube shaped leather sheath.
The birds head shaped pommel had a hole drilled through it to accommodate a thong to help the user avoid losing it.

Both the knife and the sheath are free of any USAF or other military property markings. This has, no doubt, led to its anonymity among collectors. The left ricasso is simply marked "Boker U.S.A" and the right ricasso marked "155", the Boker model number.

Cordless table saws?

Anyone using a cordless table saw? Is the convenience worth the extra couple hundred bucks?

I need another jobsite saw, and I'm really interested in a cordless version, just not sure I need it vs. just want it. After all, the standard/cheaper corded models never seemed inconvenient prior to the cordless models coming out. (It will be for DIY home use)

Probably going Dewalt.

Charcoal grilling food

Congrats on the new grill!
Cooking over charcoal has a lot of benefits. It's harder to control temp than gas, but there's a flavor aspect that trumps that in many people's views.

Don't do the newspaper, paper ash is awful. Starters are a good choice. I also make my own using fiber egg cartons, lint from the dryer, and the left over wax from my wife's candles. Fill egg sections with lint, pour melted wax over, cut into 12 sections. Voila, instant fire starters for $0.

Experiment with direct and indirect heat. Building the fire on one side of the grill allows you to cook directly over the heat for a good sear, and then to move the meat to the indirect side to finish without over-cooking.

Also, lump charcoals are good for imparting different flavors, or do what I do and just add a small piece of wood to the side of the coals once they're grey all over. Let the coals get grey, and do preheat the grill.
Different from my gas grill, I've learned to oil the food rather than the grate. Helps to keep it from sticking.

It's caveman 101, but also a lot of fun. I cook outdoors an awful lot, and have five different ways to do it now. Enjoy!

September 29th: President Trump Holds Massive Rally Tonight in West Virginia

The walk away movement is thriving thanks to how out of control the left is behaving. There is no logic, only emotional outbursts and virtue signaling. They act like they're in revolt because they care but it's clear they care about nothing but their agenda, which Trump has taken apart one piece at a time.

Just the idea of everyone saying Ford should be believed is ****ing people off. So we're not supposed to look at facts, track record or behavior, just blindly believe any accusation by a woman against any man? They're saying the woman should be believed with no regard for the person being accused. It's not just ****ing of men, any woman with a son, husband father or uncle should be just as disturbed.

I love the fact they're losing their ****, I believe it will make 2020 a lead pipe cinch.

Ozone generator uses

I bought an ozone generator last week.
Immediate idea was to clean my car and truck air conditioner to lessen my allergy symptoms and the funky stink when first started.
While waiting for it to get delivered I already solved the stinky air conditioner problem. (Just put the AC on high, non-recirc mode, raise the hood and spray a bunch of mildew and stink killer stuff in the air intake for the HVAC).

Decided to try it out in the house master bathroom, where I am always fighting some mildew that wants to grow in the caulking compound. Holy crap is this thing powerful! Turned on the exhaust fan, put 20 minutes on the ozone timer, closed the door and left the house for a couple hours. came back and the ozone smell was brutal in there, so spent the next hour airing it out.

Did a little research into precautions and other uses.

it can be used to disinfect a house (like in case of Ebola or other Epidemic).
It murders mold by the bucketful, so if a house has flooded, you should look at ozone as a way to stop the house from molding.

It kills smoke, so if you have a house that used to have a smoker but you need it clean smelling for the next occupants, a few hours of ozone will wipe out the stink.

I guess you can disinfect water with it if you fashion a contactor.

AND it kills bugs. Any bugs. Anything alive, it kills. So people, pets and plants need to be removed during treatment.

https://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Air-Co...ine%2Bair&th=1

It will also attack any rubber bands, elastic in clothing etc, so be careful and use sparingly.

2018 - 2019 hunting season stands ready?

Some parts of the nation deer season has already opened, but in this part of Texas rifle season opens the first weekend of November. so we still have a little while to go.

My son and I have been working on the deer stands. One is ready, two more to go.

Food plots are being planted. I threw some rye grass seed out a few days ago. Hoping to use the tractor to disk up an area for a food plot. My son already has his food plots planted.

The stand I will use is a porta-potty on legs. Some of the braces need to be replaced.

The tripod stand is finished and set up.

We screwed pressure treated 1X4s around the base, 2X2 uprights, then a roof of plywood. The stand was wrapped with a camouflage tarp.

The tripod stands are nice, but they offer no protection from the elements. My son and I spent around half a day getting this one ready.

The Official Shortwave Listening Thread

It was brought up by somebody that the other thread was in the wrong section, so I figured I would make another thread in the right one and try to get people to post their finds and comments.

As part of that other thread I noticed that a lot of people agree that shortwave radio is a valuable asset. A lot of stations are dropping their shortwave transmissions, I'll miss the AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio Television Service) out of Florida. For that reason I would recommend to email the radio stations you listen to in order to let them know that there are still people in the United States listening to them.

I've also noticed that this is an area that turning it on when the grid fails is not as easy as one would think. Grabbing the Chinese Solar Shortwave Radio you picked up on Ebay for $25 is basically gonna leave you digging through the channels hoping that you'll pick something up on that 20" extendable antenna, good luck with that. As with all radios the Antenna is 75% of the system. Some would say 90, but that's besides the point.

Also, with enough listening you'll learn that a lot of the stations switch frequencies throughout the day due to different bands being open at different times of the day.

I've noticed that most of the English speaking stations left are Christian Ministries targeting South America and Africa, but there are definitely still some gems out there. Of course there's always the New Zealand Radio Station.

I am currently in Occupied Ca and found InfoWars (as if radio stations around would carry him) on WWCR transmitter 2 throughout the week. That same station has The Last Radio with Allen ??? that was a hour of awesome oldies. Looking forward to next week and seeing what The Golden Age of radio is all about. Hopefully there's some old radio shows like the Lone Ranger or maybe even some Mystery Theater.

But here's one of those Ham Secrets that they don't share with us Bubba's. The guy who runs the WTWW Christian Ministry transmitters out of Lebanon, TN is a Ham and one of the Transmitters, 5085. targets Radio Amateurs. I've been listening to a great mix of oldies and hearing ads for radio equipment.

Corey booker must resign asap

Booker openly admitted to groping a woman just a few years back. When will his Ethics committee review begin ? This is a low life anti American Maoist that pontificated and virtue signaled incessantly during the Kav proceedings. The Right needs to start calling these people out, flash mobbing them in restaurantsand protest outside their Congressional offices. No more taking the high rode. Taking the high rode emboldens this trash. They are frontrunners but they wilt when they run into Folks that push back and spit in their cowardly faces.

Booker has designs on running in 2020. Hence all his horribly staged theatrics during the Kav hearings.

Time to grow a pair on the Right and start giving these scum a taste of their own medicine.

Knives very similar to the Benchmade Bugout

I’ve got a benchmade bugout. Love it.

Thin, light, locks up great. It may not be super strong since it is so light, but it’s super comfortable to carry.

https://knifenews.com/best-new-manual-folder-2017/

I’ve got the green version.

Here’s the purpose of this thread, though.

What other knives are out there that are similar?

Very light (2-2 1/2 ounce), 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 inch blades; pocket clip; pretty good steel; comfortable, thin scales that are not very aggressive on your hands or pocket. Well established locking mechanism

Ideally some sort of plastic/valox/frn

I hate a thief

While at work today, someone took my bag of tools, including my Voltimeter, off our big yellow cart. I talked to our EHS (safety and security) folks and they said that even though it was well over $1000 worth of tools it was not their problem.
I guarantee that if I had taken their stuff it would be different, I'd be behind the door at the graybar hotel.
What is worse is that because we have to provide our own tools, I have to go buy new tools.
I hate a thief, and am beginning to think that our EHS folks are too lazy to do their jobs.

So why not grab a bunch of them and hope Trump can turn the oil sector around? As oil prices continue to go up, so should the stocks, at least that is my theory.

Anyone have suggestions on oil stocks that took a nose dive between 2013 - 2015 and might make a recovery?

Ford Stock hitting new lows - buy or pass?

Ford stock is around the same price it was in the early 2000s after the explorer roll-over problems.

As of September 28, 2018 ford stock is at 9.2150.

Pass or buy?

I can not remember the last time Ford released a "new" product line.

Ford ownership seems divided between people who hate and people who love ford.

Back in the 1990s I had a Ford Escort, will never buy another one. The only real Ford car that has left a lasting impression on society is the Ford Mustang.

Once an industry leader, Ford seems to be dying off. I keep hoping the company will turn around, but the leadership over the past decades has not done anything.

When someone mentions ford, what do people think about? For me, the Ford F150 and the Ford Mustang.

When someone mentions Toyota, what comes to mind? Reliability.

There lies the problem. Chevy/GM and Ford seem to have long standing reliability problems, while Dodge and Toyota do not. Even going back to the 1980s my parents had a Ford F150 that had constant carburetor problems.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Replacing waterproofing on ALICE lid?

Does anyone know of a reasonably durable brush-on product that can replace the waterproof layer on the underside of the ALICE pack lid? The old rubber is all gone with just the fabric left behind.

I just picked up another ALICE, for use in the car as a get home bag (that's my rationale anyhow). I'm up to four of them now, the prices are just irresistible, lol.

Was just curious if there is a official "lifestraw" type filter issued for military use.Maybe combat troops, recon, types that can't carry 5 days worth of water?

I know sometimes military bids are choosen by cost vs.quality..anyone have any input?

Radioactive forests

Fukushima contamination was very minor.

The Japanese reaction, an extreme overreaction. I'll have to hunt a little for the link but I read a very interesting article showing that far more people where killed in car crashes from the evacuation than would have died if they all stayed in place. (which would have been 0) and thousands are dying every year from their shift back to fossil fuels.

Either way, animals do better with a little radiation and no people than they do otherwise.

Mobile antenna install

Any one ever put a mag mount on a Silverado? I am wondering how to get the coax into the vehicle. I have a Wilson 500 and 5000. I am looking to use the 5000 since the coil is removable for car washes and taking the truck into the woods. I am thinking running the coax thru the 3rd brake light if possible.

Thanks for any help.

New Home/Land Purchase is Crawling with Deer

So I upgraded from under 2 acres to 6.5 acres......and to make a long story short I have deer rolling around in my back yard and snoozing on the lawn laying on their sides in the middle of the day like dogs. They allow me to get as close as 10 yards or so before they take off. They come right out of the wooded area and hang out in the yard even with 6 or more construction guys running around working driving in and out of the driveway etc...

I was walking through a wooded area of my lot blabbing on the phone today and spooked 2 fawns who only ran a few feet before stopping.... The mother doe just stood there about 10 yards away and did nothing!

So here is the weird part......

I have found 3 folding tree stands and one wooden one in my woods. I also found a Remington game cam and........ A full sized deer skull with a nice 8 point spread on it..... A very HEALTHY 8 point spread, bigger than most 10's I have seen for sure.

The tree stands look to be in good shape but have been there a while because the trees they are in are literally growing over the metal....... I have only seen a single spike buck in the 3 weeks here and that's it for males.... All the rest have been does and fawns.

My question is why are these deer not scared to death of humans if someone has been so obviously hunting them? Keep in mind that this is in the middle of the suburbs of Pennsylvania.... I'm a ten min drive to a large city.

In any case I figure they could be an awesome resource if SHTF right?

The Chicken Farmer

A man who had high hopes of being the biggest chicken farmer in his parts bought a large ranch. Then he went to the Farmer's Co-op and purchased 5,000-day old chicks. He came back many times over the next few weeks and kept buying another 5,000-day old chick. Finally, one day when the chicken farmer came into the Co-op to buy more chicks the clerk said to the man,

"Wow, you're going to have the largest chicken farm in these parts with all of those chicks you have bought."
The chicken farmer eyed the man and then said,

"Yes, but I think I'm doing something wrong?"

The clerk said, "How's that?"

The chicken farmer replied, "I'm either planting them too deep or too close together."

coldfusion plane crash

Default coldfusion plane crash

at one time I heard a conspiracy theory that there was a plane crash where several, if not all, of the developers of the coldfusion hardware/software were killed in a plane crash and it was because of some pwoerful business interests were trying to take over the company. I searched on startpage.com but couldn't find anything. I haven't tried google yet. Does this ring a bell for anybody?

Small livestock and the single homesteader

It's late (had a callout, as is not unusual it was done about the time I got there.) And now I'm sitting up with the adrenalin dropping (wild ride) and trying not to throw up. (Pressure on spine, reflex reflux.... Joke.) No biggie it'll pass. Just a warning this will probably ramble more than I already have:

Reading in the July\Aug backwoodsman, there's an article: "Keeping Chickens Woodsloafer style"

Now I've kept chickens before (more accurately WE did) but we free ranged them. Can't do that here (tried it) the critters snack on them all eventually. (Game hens and bantims will be tried.)

Now based on numbers.... There's quite the run needed (lots of wire)
But this article talks about a 7x10 for up to 10 chickens.
That enough? (I know in inhumane conditions chickens are kept in such small cages they cannot stand up... I don't like that, they deserve better.)

That was thought #1.

I currently have rabbits.... Because post Easter rabbits were $2 and less.
No harm to butcher when they become a bother. (Between poor health\not traveling well and my EMT class I knew I wasn't going anywhere for a while.)

Come Christmas I'll need a bunny sitter or freeze them all.

This article on chickens talks about the 3 gal waterer lasting a week, and the 30lb feeder lasting 3 weeks.

Now I have the usual 1 quart or so watterer for my rabbits, and little feeders (although they are currently getting daily grass vs pellets.)
But I'm interested in "larger options"

...say something so that I could be comfortable asking a buddy to check the rabbits (or chickens, if I'm going to keep one, may as well get the other) 1x\week and then be fine.

I'm sure many know that the issue being a single person is that the critters always need to be cared for.... When there's someone else to spot you for a day when your sick or gone.... No big deal.
But solo.... They can become a real problem.
In October I'll be caring for friends critters for 2 weeks, I may just being the rabbits over there in some cases when I leave....

I've not worried about it as I have 2 near sources for livestock should it be becessary, and I have the "stuff" put back ( have raised various types in the past.)

In winter freezing will also be a problem. I can envision a bucket gravity flowing to individual nipples through PEX so it doesn't break, but it won't get water to the bunnies

In short:
Mainly rabbits and chickens, but throw in quail or something else if you like:
What technology "cheats" do you use so that you can get water and feed to the small livestock so that they can be ignored (understanding its not good and not my normal methods) for days at a time?

Hope that wasn't too difficult to follow

Update on Handbrake and MP4 surround sound

On the is DVD no longer free thread I was trying to get an MP4 file to play in 5.1 surround and thanks for the help I was able to understand why even though I did what looked like surround sound it was saving as stereo.

What was required was changing the Bitrate number to 448 from default 160 and I changed the Dolby to 5.1 channels but Dolby surround or pro might work as well.
Once the program is converted to MP4 you can right click on the icon click properties then click details and it will state if it has 2 or in this case 6 (as in 5.1)
This detail ability does not show on the older XP version of Handbrake but does show on the W10 newer version.

So, I changed the Bitrate to 448 and 5.1 and for the first time have 6 channels but when I run it via the HDMI from my laptop to my receiver it is still in stereo (although I get some muffled sounds through the center speaker) but no surround.
So, I take the external with this show and plug it into my old XP with the surround sound audio card and low and behold it works all 5 speakers as it should.

I tried this because it dawned on me my new laptop does not have a sound card like my old tower or not a surround one (I put that in for games/sims) so now I have to call MSI and find out if there is a way to install 5.1 in the laptop.
Unfortunately my old XP tower does not have HDMI or I could just run my 25 foot HDMI from it to the receiver ( that sends the video signal only to the TV) meaning I may have spent a great deal of time to learn how do to something I will never be able to use
Such is life

But, since some here helped me learn enough to try some things that eventually did get some answers perhaps some of you will be able to run surround with MP4
Good luck but know having a surround sound card in your computer is required to make that happen</span>

Door bell with two way comm

We got the ring for my in-laws. It's not bad, but it would be hard to activate the voice part of it if you can't see well. You must run the software on some sort of phone or tablet. The software does notify you of someone walking in front of the house or door before they ring the doorbell depending on how you set it up.

I've been doing some research trying to hook up something similar to my home security system. But I've found nothing easy so far.

Wife wants to give stuff away!

Please forgive me if this isn't the correct thread, haven't been on in a while.

So my wife and I have been talking about stepping up our prepping game lately. We do a good bit here and there, but we could always do more. My wife has much more of a "givers" heart than I do. I'm a full time fireman, and a prior Marine, so my life is of service to others. I get wanting others to be comfortable and fed. But she insists on stocking up "extra" food and water to give to other people in the event of SHTF, WROL, or insert fun scenario here. I can't stand that idea. To me, that is directly taking food and water out of our mouths, and our children's. I know how ruthless people can be, and turn into absolute savages when their comfort is threatened. So what should I do? Any advice for me? I don't want to hide stuff from her, but that might be the only way. I'm not necessarily stressing about it, but its making me nervous for sure.
