The Official Shortwave Listening Thread

It was brought up by somebody that the other thread was in the wrong section, so I figured I would make another thread in the right one and try to get people to post their finds and comments.

As part of that other thread I noticed that a lot of people agree that shortwave radio is a valuable asset. A lot of stations are dropping their shortwave transmissions, I'll miss the AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio Television Service) out of Florida. For that reason I would recommend to email the radio stations you listen to in order to let them know that there are still people in the United States listening to them.

I've also noticed that this is an area that turning it on when the grid fails is not as easy as one would think. Grabbing the Chinese Solar Shortwave Radio you picked up on Ebay for $25 is basically gonna leave you digging through the channels hoping that you'll pick something up on that 20" extendable antenna, good luck with that. As with all radios the Antenna is 75% of the system. Some would say 90, but that's besides the point.

Also, with enough listening you'll learn that a lot of the stations switch frequencies throughout the day due to different bands being open at different times of the day.

I've noticed that most of the English speaking stations left are Christian Ministries targeting South America and Africa, but there are definitely still some gems out there. Of course there's always the New Zealand Radio Station.

I am currently in Occupied Ca and found InfoWars (as if radio stations around would carry him) on WWCR transmitter 2 throughout the week. That same station has The Last Radio with Allen ??? that was a hour of awesome oldies. Looking forward to next week and seeing what The Golden Age of radio is all about. Hopefully there's some old radio shows like the Lone Ranger or maybe even some Mystery Theater.

But here's one of those Ham Secrets that they don't share with us Bubba's. The guy who runs the WTWW Christian Ministry transmitters out of Lebanon, TN is a Ham and one of the Transmitters, 5085. targets Radio Amateurs. I've been listening to a great mix of oldies and hearing ads for radio equipment.
