Newbie given a Muzzleloader - Need help getting started

I'm familiar with modern firearms and reloading, but was given a muzzleloader rifle and don't know how to get started with it.

The only marking I can find on it says, "Dikar Spain 45 cal", so obviously I need to use a 45 caliber ball, but which one? When I look at midwayusa.com at 45 caliber muzzleloader round balls it shows that they are available in .440, .445, or .447.

From what I've been able to learn from reading online it seems that I need FFG Black Powder substitute since it is a rifle. Is that correct?
How many grains of FFG Black Powder substitute is a good starting load?

What brand of FFG Black Powder substitute would you recommend? Does one exist that is non-corrosive?...or at least less corrosive?

How do I know what size percussion caps I need?

What about patch lube? Use Bore Butter or is there something better?

Let's block ads! (Why?)
