The Urban Exodus

Residents of America’s big cities are starting to flee the chaos of city life. As a result, biblical words like exodus and apocalypse are suddenly showing up in secular newspapers. Consider these headlines from the last month:

“COVID-19 pandemic, crime worries appear to fuel exodus from big cities”

“Is the pandemic causing an exodus from big cities?”

“Hollywood Apocalypse NOW: Rich and famous are fleeing in droves…”

“Apocalypse on their mind: Bay area transfixed by foreboding, orange, smoke-choked skies”

.....

While I think it’s possible that God may call some people to leave the city, it’s just as possible that God is calling you to follow the model of the early Church—to stay and redeem your city. Remember, the New Testament counterpart to Lot’s urban exodus is not a flight to the suburbs, but a flight to heaven!
