You are aware that judgements can be reached without the debtor (believe me, I believe they should repay their debts) being present or aware.... correct?

Yes, you can't go to jail for debt.
But you can go to jail for contempt of court etc BECAUSE you didn't pay...

Please note he didn't go to jail fir failure to appear, he was coerced into a repayment plan.

If this was about failure to show.... it would of ended differently. (And then I would agree with you.)
