From the start, in order to appeal to the millennials and younger voters the indefensible socialism was downplayed because it proved too easily argued down. Sanders is pushed as a harmless, well-meaning nice guy (always "Bernie," never Sanders) who will bring ethics back to government.
This harmlessness is "illustrated" by relentless celebration the evils of Hillary Clinton which the Sanders campaign has been gleefully and aggressively exploiting in all forms of social media. At first I thought this was some sort of inexplicable support of conservatism, but it isn't. It's just to make Sanders look like a harmless, nice guy by comparison. Funny how all the whining about "rich old white men" in government suddenly fell silent when he became a candidate..
This "harmless guy" angle is further pushed by drumbeating the claims that "the president doesn't do anything anyway," "the president doesn't have any real power," "congress is probably block anything he does so what's the harm [that he's a socialist]?" and so on, over and over and over. (When did our schools stop teaching about how our government works and the role of the president in our nation and the world??)
And here's the change: about two weeks ago they started pushing for not only a socialist president but a socialist congress. It started with subtle little prods "Don't forget to also vote candidates into congress who will support him!" Now it's turned into a full court press for a completely socialist congress. They started with one presidential candidate and expanded it to the legislative branch.
Textbook leftist incrementalism to get the camel into the tent. Deceptive, manipulative, and disgusting. And the kids are eating it up.
