Condor Recon Chest Rig (Black/Tan) - $32.58 shipped
Last week I decided to take a subtle approach that doesn't expose myself. I left them a nice dead possum and some chicken guts. Mission success. Nobody hangs around there any more. It's funny watching them hold their noses and run off. I am also seeing how this easy deterant could be beneficial in an SHTF situation.
I am wanting to stage a secondary attack with more staying power, like maybe a hog mash that will last a while. Does anyone have any good recipes?
Are they still open for business? Any help is appreciated in this endeavor.
(Mods, wasn't sure where to put this one, but since they sell supplies for DIY, here we are.)
In the area where I am building my refuge there are a couple of place, rural land with cabins I know belong to survivalists. I have met them and will say they are definitely well armed individualists. They come to their property the fire their weapons and do imorovements..
The individuals i spoke to, there are several members in each group, all seem to have very aggressive attitudes. My ppotential worry is that in a long term situation they run out of their supplies and turn into well armed predators. There are preps I can make to deal with such a situation, expensive, but I see no other route.
I feel like this up coming election will be a watershed moment and no matter who wins disaster will be the out come. Racing against time and time is getting short.
So the question of toilet came up. I went back to basics. Home depot bucket. We decided to also compost. As we can turn our waste to food.duh.
so if you need a basic composting toilet. Don't spend 100's. Spend like 20 for the full set up.
It consists of a Homer bucket, composting media(we use pine shavings from tractor supply. Like 5 for 10lbs.) And a lid for the bucket. If you want to go fancy shmancy. Get a lug a loo lid with seat. Or buy a water noodle slice down the center and place around bucket top for a seat.
All in all a cheap and effective commode.
Enjoy!
as always, any and all responses are appreciated!

Metacritic:
Quote:
Summary: Zero Days is a documentary thriller about the world of cyberwar. For the first time, the film tells the complete story of Stuxnet, a piece of self-replicating computer malware (known as a “worm” for its ability to burrow from computer to computer on its own) that the U.S. and Israel unleashed to destroy a key part of an Iranian nuclear facility, and which ultimately spread beyond its intended target. |
I can access a link to "all of my threads" from my profile page, and check to see if the number of replies has gone up on any of those threads.
However, Im just wondering if Im missing a notification centre that already tells me "you have a new reply/replies to ---- thread."
Sorry if this isnt the right section but I must have missed a "general questions" section.
Love this forum so far. Thank you all so much
I have a "new to me" house with 1.1 acres for a yard. House was built in 1978 and the lot has quite a few mature trees on it. (some fruit trees). But the Evergreens (the ones that look like Christmas trees) need to be trimmed a lot at the bottom so I can put up a fence. I would like to put those branches thru a chipper/shredder so I can use it for mulch on the blueberry bushes I intend to plant next spring. If I put those branches thru a chipper, is the sap going to make a mess of the chipper? (branches are about 2-2.5 inch diameter)
On the other hand, what about #10 cans from Costco/Sam's Club/Smart and Final and the like? They require no extra water, are possibly cheaper (?), and I can pick them up locally so no shipping costs. Unfortunately I'm finding rather hard actually to find bulk non-dehydrated food in the same variety as the dehydrated ones (!)
Is there any merit to getting non-dehydrated #10 cans, or are they just not right for long term food storage? I've read anecdotally that regular canned goods should last far beyond expiration (but not always).
Given that information and that time limit, what would you do to prepare for what may be a major electrical shutdown without knowing how long that shutdown may be for? Thank you in advance.
Yesterday I return from a trip from Appomattox Court House, Lexington, Amherst and a few other small towns in the area. This area is absolutely beautiful area with rolling green hills, just stunning beauty. It's also teeming with Civil war history so it's a perfect fit for me. I was sad to find out that the house the surrender was signed was not the real house, just a fake built year later to look like it. Even the tables Grant and Lee used were fakes.
But anyway back to my question. Lee was offered to lead the Union army at the beginning of the war. He turned it down saying he couldn't use his sword against his native Virginia. As we all know he resigned and became the commander of the army of Northern Virginia. Why wasn't Lee immediately arrested for treason? There was time, he told them (Union) what his plans were so why did they allow him to just ride away and then of course very nearly defeat the entire US military?
thank for any thoughts...

I want to add a post filter after the sawyer 0.02. I did search the forum and most post on this topics are pretty old . I wanted to see if there weren't new products recommended to attach to it . Please feel free to recommend other products and chime in for additional comments
Much appreciated
Thanks
What Ive seen recommended :
Katadyn carbon filter
---> filter 200Liter as per website, some folks on this forum were wondering its effectiveness has its very short.
Platypus gravityworks cabon element
---> filter 300 liter , some reviews mention this slow down their gravity fed system up to a point where several reviewer just removed it.
Turned out to have expired in 2011😮
I made a box and was hopeful when the pasta turned out alright....
However, the cheese mix had gone bad. What was once a fine orange powder had become dark orange granules almost like FFg.
Made up smooth enough, but into a tan colored mess that smelled terrible. I didn't bother tasting it.
So I don't know how long it keeps after the exp date... But it's s not 5yrs!
I've always had the 12 Guage by the bed, and on the (rare occasions) I've hunted small game it's with my 20 Guage Mossberg 500 with polly choke (love that thing)
But last night I stepped out onto my porch 6 feet from a racoon.
I didn't want to shoot it with the .40 on my belt (ears) so now my $1.40 savage 94 single shot rests next to the door. (Suppressed Ruger American is by the side door (stored in accordance with ATF regs) and accounted for a dillo tonight.) With a set of ears on the forend.
-post spinal surgery 410 will hurt much less.
I've owned 410's here and there, but I started with a SS 20 and never really used them.
And, I'm nor sure what shot to use on say... coons or perhaps turkey in season (they stalk me here) buck (currently in it) seems a waste, and... marginal with only 3 pellets.
Don't know if the #4 I've got floating around would be adequate, know the 6 wouldn't.
Stuck some slugs in the old 1st aid pouch I attached to the stock for now...
Just want to be responsable.
Thanks.

I don't think it practical to carry two large kennels if you have to "bug out" in an emergency. And dogs could drown, for instance, in a kennel.
I'd first go with a very heavy duty harness and leash. In a pinch you can tie it off to a tree and they won't be able to go anywhere or slip out of it.
If you MUST have a kennel, the wire collapsible ones are compact and light enough to carry two at once with some strength. About $100 new each.
The top priority is good clear dog tags and having them microchipped so if you are separated you can increase the odds of recovery.
Greetings...I'm in central florida. Started prepping about a year ago. Finding that i am in the minority, as far as people preparing for any emergencies. I hope to communicate with people in my area to share ideas, learn, and perhaps meet a small group of like minded individuals. I am a veteran, and do take this seriously. Thanjs
Regardless, what does this mean for Europe? In my personal opinion the Brexit is not "over," but merely the beginning of a series of events. There are a lot of ways this can go... a domino effect where other states begin to hold their own referendums...or maybe they all try to stick together but Germany simply is no longer able to prop up all the other bankrupt economies in the E.U. by itself... and massive defaults ensue?
No matter how it goes, from my research I believe that this is the beginning of the end of the European Union. If the EU falls apart, what are the implications? Specifically, financial and geographical.
I have my thoughts and opinions on the matter, but I want to engage you guys. So how will the global financial order change because of this? How much will the world map change? And how extensive will that change be?
Let's hash it out, I think this one is really worth the time.
A ways back while i was looking for a handgun i decided that i should get get both a 9mm and a .45cp. One tool doesnt do everything so just get both. I purchased a new CZ SP01 (9mm) and a used Sig P220(.45acp). Both are nice. No issues. At the time of purchase i wasnt thinking about C/C. I am now leaning that way. While the CZ is nice, its big and heavy. The Sig P220 feels great in my hand but only holds 8 rounds.
I was thinking about switching to a smaller CZ model like 75 compact and going with a larger capacity .45. Maybe the FNX 45.
I would still be keeping both calibers and i could have a lighter more easily carried 9mm. Which if needed my son could use as well. The SP01 is just too heavy for him. I still have to shoot and hold both to see how they feel but i just think that may be the better way to go.
I dont have the funds to be a collector. My wife would have issues if i added two more to the group so i would have to make a trade.
Suggestions? Thoughts?
Ordered a Surefire XC1 weaponlight today for $199 shipped. Have heard amazing things about the light so hopefully it will live up to the hype. Anybody rocking one? It will go on my EDC Glock 19 which I will now just double as my bedside gun. If I like it enough I may get a second for my spare G19 as I have them set up identical. It should be here by 07/02/16 so when it arrives I will do a full up review on it for everyone.
In the mean time the Democrat machine is steamrolling Trump and the GOP.
In six months----give or take---- all my priority preps will be complete and I will be ready for anything that comes barring an asteroid strike or alien ibvasion.
Boy Scout motto--- be prepared. That is so true for the coming times
It appears to be a great gun but I hesitate as I have no experience with this brand, so any input would be welcomed
Hello everyone. Brand new member from Texas looking to break into more primitive camping/hiking. My brother and I have frequently embarked on camping trips throughout the years to stay in touch. We've dabbled in the "primitive" sites that some places have set and dedicated. But we'd like to branch out into more bushcraft oriented camping. I look forward to learning and reading all the info here.
My wife and me are planning to build a vault out of shipping container. It's intended for storage space. We have some old equipment that need to be kept safe like music instruments, engineering machines and tools and so on. I also intend to use it as an emergency hide out. I have talked with one container solutions company and they showed us many custom designs for the vault. It's also cheap to build. I hope that with proper insulation containers can be used as good vaults as it's generally build for freight transport. What is your opinion about this? Is container a good option for a storage space?
Thank you for your time.
What happened to the Chat Room? Anyone seen crankyfarmer?

I've known some pampered folks in the past, and nary one would be capable of fending for him/herself without the trappings of luxury and convenience. This "prep school" is taking the rich and gullible to the proverbial cleaners at $1,400/day in peak season.
PT Barnum was right ...
Is anyone else feeling the same way?

So I stayed home from work today because I had a package coming that I had paid for signature and extra insurance on because I did not want it left on the front step (I work out of state during the week).
So I'm sitting here in my recliner about 10 feet from the front door waiting on this package to arrive.
I check my email, and lo and behold it says that I wasn't home and the driver tried to deliver it!
What hair I've got left is red (and grey) so of course my temper popped.
I got on the phone with UPS and explained that I was sitting here and yeah there's a sticker stuck on the door and I don't know how he snuck up to the door and put the sticker on it without me seeing him.
They tell me that I'll have to pick the package up tomorrow at the UPS Depot.
I told them no, so they were going to try to get with the locals to see if they can arrange something.
Now that little two-and-a-half watt bulb starts glowing over my head because I remember I have a whole house video security system.
I rewind the DVR and I see the truck go down the road at 2:08:24.
2:09:20 The truck comes back up the road the other way and parks in front of my door.
2:011:08 driver out of the truck.
Pad of slips in his hand, but no box.
2:11:15 the driver glances in through the window in the door, but no knock.
2:11:20 sticks the slip on the door.
2:11:29 he's back in the truck.
2:11:57 truck leaves.
The slip says "sorry you weren't home will try again tomorrow."
When the local Depot called me to tell me there wasn't anything the driver could do except deliver it tomorrow, I told the guy that's fine, I'm sure when corporate gets the link to the YouTube video that I'm getting ready to put on the internet they'll be sure and get a hold of his supervisor and the driver.
The wrap up to the story is the driver just called me and he's on his way back over here to deliver the package.
First time I've ever used the security system like this, but it seems to have had a little impact on them.
Now I know I live out in the sticks and I know I'm not here most of the time, but this just really aggravated the living hell out of me.
