When that time finally comes

My old Dad is in his late 80's. He is a retired military man, serving in 3 war zones. He spent his life hunting and was a competition rifle shooter with a lot of match wins under his belt. He's built a fine collection of firearms.

This week I had to take them away. It's a hard thing to do without causing hurt feelings. Dad is physically feeble and often mentally confused, but in denial about both.

Have any of the rest of you had to take this action with friends or family? It's not a comfortable thing to do.
