Does anyone burn coal in a wood/coal stove

I have two dual fuel stoves a Wonderlux, and a Vogelzang pot belly. I have just receintly started experimenting with burning bituminous coal. I haven't been very successful so far.

The one time I thought I was really burning coal I put about 4 coal shovel scoops of walnut size on a thick bed of red hot wood coals. Do you have to go through this extreme method to get a coal fire started???

How much coal should I be putting on my fire???

Seems like the coal fire won't sustain itself unless the damper is wide open and I am letting in a lot of combustion air. Am I right???

Let's block ads! (Why?)
