Having been here and thinking things over for a while, I now realize that at least for some, the zombie apocalypse will be a little technologically slicker than the vision of an old Mad Max movie. We'll be running computers, and whatever we can.
Just wondering if satellite navigation might still be available after an event-- whether it's your phone, or something else. I'm talking more about something off-the-shelf, available for the civilian market now, rather than just whether it's absolutely possible, or available to the military or anything.
I'm also not that concerned about a very specific type of event- those of you who have read my posts may remember that I'm intrigued by the possibility of the apocalypse having a few, combined causes, and being a slow decline. Let's just say, something knocking out at least a lot of the grid or important parts of the grid-- like a lot of northeastern, metropolitan power. Doesn't have to be an EMP or a CME-- although I'm supposing a CME will effect any satellites in its path.
Interested to hear various opinions, even if someone else answers first, and you think what you've read, or your expertise, suggests a different answer.

Also wondering about atomic clocks. Will they be useful / functioning after an event? Or will instead maybe just charging and turning on your phone still give you accurate time? And if so, what would that depend on? The cell phone tower network still functioning, the government atomic clock... ?
Thanks!
