I haven't started looking yet,but I'm sure there is some type of battery, handheld type out there..curious if anyone had any experience or tried any out..nudge me in the right direction.

I thought about just pre grinding a few ounces every week...but I'm sure she just enjoys it better doing it as needed..sometimes the process of eating is as enjoyable as the actual eating..an experience.

Any recomendations or comments?

There are tons of them out there. The problem is they are almost all short lived. The electric peppermill market is chock full of poor performers. They either are trash right off the bat or they die too fast. Some may rise the the level of acceptable, but there are no standouts of good running long lasting electric peppermills the cooking community all agrees is the Rolls Royce grade product.

Worse is none are cheap. You'll spend a fair bit of cash on disappointment.

I went through this exercise for my own 80something age mother several years ago.

I'm almost tempted to recommend you grind a couple tablespoons for her every so often. Pepper oil volatiles don't fade instantly. Aroma does a little. A bit done every few weeks won't be a letdown in taste. She can also heat the ground pepper a few moments in a small dry pan to eke out a bit more aroma, if she uses it right after heating.

Those small old female hands will increase your need for special little favors as time marches on. The kitchen is a rough place for gals that age. Frustrating too after a life of mastery. Maybe just see this as a signal that she needs to start a list you can solve once a week for her. Open that favored little jar of olives or sweet peppers she likes, grind a bit of fresh pepper, grate a bit of parmesan, ask what she needs taken down or put back to those high cabinets for the coming week, etc. Her weekly kitchen rescue that lets her keep cooking. You don't want her to stop because self care is important for overall health. Better to cover the hard tasks instead of shrinking her entire cooking game. The day she abandons the kitchen as too hard is going to signal the final slide to needing total personal care. Fill in the gaps as long as you can. A goodly supply of tiny easy open containers will help you both a lot in this. Check that they are actually easy for her.
