In the 1800s, out door survival was significantly more common. Heck, a large percentage in rural areas hunted for sustenance back then. So that would mean that the demand for gear should be exponentially higher than today, no?
Do you think that would have made the development and sale of goofy outdoor contraptions greater? Or do you think that the larger number of seriously experienced woodsman would have driven the markets to produce hard core staple survival tools instead?
Lastly, what kinds of outdoor survival gear, particularly back packing gear, do you have, or have seen that would be considered way over designed to the point that it is impractical and more of a gimmick than a real survival item?
I will start out with a "Backpack" that also turns into a little boat, and a shelter. Sure, it's super multi functional, but where do you keep your stuff when it's not in back pack mode?
