Although this is an old article, it's still relevant.
My wife is from Brownsville and we were visiting recently. Her family is definitely against Trump and the wall. Her brother claimed that a wall and deportation would turn Brownsville into a ghost town. Schools would close, many birthing hospitals would close, and retail/small business would suffer. Basically, the whole economy would crash. Personally, I think it's pretty bad down there already. They even hire illegals to help care for their mother, house keeping, and with child care for his children. I am sure the guy who mows their yard is illegal as well. The ones who take care of their mother, my MIL, gets paid $40 A DAY...A DAY! They stay for 5 days straight and get free board and room. How nice of him to give them that. So really, they work about 16 hours a day, all for $40 dollars. It makes me sick!
His kids are in a private school because most of the schools are Spanish speaking only. They teach all the subjects in Spanish. How the need does that happen? Kids come across the border/bridge every day and the school bus picks them up at the border and takes them back after school. They get free breakfast, lunch, and an education, all of it paid by our tax dollars. It doesn't cost Brownsville ISD anything.It's all state money.
I want to make some phone calls!
We need that wall.
