Complete noob to an AR build but I have committed by purchasing an LMT Defender 2000 lower. If I'm looking to build a general purpose rifle used mainly for ridding my acreage of wild hogs, then other purposes beyond that....any recommendations on barrel length, dot vs scope, round handguards vs rails, other considerations? At some point I'd really like nightvision but it may not be in my budget at first....roughly $1k to start. In referencing the AR Download page I see a lot of manufacturer specific info but not a lot on "build it this way for this purpose" . Thought I'd check with the community here to at least get me pointed to the right references, links to articles, youtubes, etc. thanks. |
If you want a good budget night vision red dot NAIT sells refurbished M845 gen 2+ 1.5 and 2.8 magnification. Both can be found on Ebay for under $1,000. I would reccomend getting an illuminator like the TNVC Torch though to improve the function of the device which go for about $260.
For an upper this is a great deal at $320 bucks:
Honestly, if I were you that is exactly what I would do.
Buy the upper at PSA $320 plus shipping so $350 on the high end.
TNVC Torch $260 plus shipping so $275 on the high end.
That is $625 but stay with me now, buy a 10 pack of PMAGs from DSG for $100 bucks and about 160-200 bucks for a Midwest Industries rail. Now we are at almost $1,000 bucks and you have no optic but remember as well I made you buy the Torch which is only useful if you have night vision.
If you get an M845 on Ebay and use Paypal you get 6 months no interest on purchases over $99 bucks. If you bought the 2.8X M845 for $950 dollars you simply need to pay $158.33 every month for the next 6 months and you won't pay any interest.
