Slide Rule

I was reading a rather dated book in which someone referred to calculating using a slipstick, or slide rule.

Slide rules were used primarily for multiplication and division, and also for functions such as roots, logarithms and trigonometry. The last time I saw one was in high school long ago.

For years now people have been using calculators and I doubt that most people now have even seen a slide rule, let alone know how to use one. Certainly I don't.

So from a prepping context and a possible collapse of infrastructure that may lose power supplies for calculators, can anyone think of important things that a calculator does that would justify the need for a slide rule? And how many here know how to use a slide rule? If google is any indication the only slide rules available appear to be second hand.
