It always amuses me that folks would rather make up scenarios in their own mind on how things will play out rather then looking towards history and current events for the truth.

I think like Ferfal repeated most commonly your best bet is to have family and friends like family to watch out for each other as the best defense. If you don't have a good network in place then it's going to be tough surviving on your own security is always better with the more people you have to share it. Just like patrol base activities security should always come first. After that worry about water, food, hygiene and every thing else that life requires.
