Why the 550 cord bracelets?

I will admit I own a 550 cord bracelet but besides looking stylish for your other prepper friends has anyone ever in the history of the earth used one for anything at all let alone for a survival emergency?

I'm just curious because I have never seen or heard of one being cut and used once made.
