From what I read most guys say the gun will not be dependable and the cost is more than buying a very nice gun.
Am I missing something? You can buy a working dependable 1911 for $500 sometimes less, but It costs more to build one than that?
From what I read Guys say you will spend at least $1000 on building one and it still will not be reliable.
I am looking at aluminum or steel frames, no polymer and doesn't need to be stainless.
My goal, I have two boys. They both, as they have gotten older enjoy shooting and firearms. I want to build them a gun from scratch with nobody else's tooling marks on it. Just what I choose to engrave.
It doesn't have to be reliable but it does need to function.
Kind of something to remember me by and hand down.
I fully understand the size of the project and the amount of work that it would take and I know my kids do as well, but am I really going to spend $1000 on making something for them that doesn't work? Or even worse, isn't safe?
Looking at something like a 45 with lower chamber pressures.
Thanks,
